sure. However, how can you enjoy something you think is bad? That's the oxymoron. Who cares what someone else considers bad, if you like it, it's good. Point is, the thread title needs a better definition than the one it's posted under.

It only looks that way because that time also saw the rise of the internet movie critic. There was no shortage of them who fanned the flames in the Star Wars fan base and bashed George Lucas as a means to increase their own popularity. This went largely uncontested until the children of the 90's grew up and were able to make their voice heard.

My opinion of the prequels hasn't changed much and I was a teen in the 90's. I still enjoy all 3 movies even though I don't like some of the creative choices Lucas made (The Romeo and Juliet inspired romance dialog is probably my top one). Oddly enough though, I do have more appreciation for Jar Jar Binks and the role he played in the PT. He's nowhere near as annoying as I remembered and I would definitely take him over the Ewoks any day.

Some other movies I enjoy but aren't generally recognized by others:
* Equilibrium
* Vidocq
* Running Scared [would probably be considered a better movie if anyone had heard of or would watch it]
* Lord of War

And of course, sadly not many properly agree on the greatest movie of all time being Clue (though few would say it's a bad movie).

Equilibrium wasn't a bad movie though, it got a bit of undeserved flak for "being similar" to The Matrix (which it wasn't)

I also find them watchable enough.
Fun fact: Cage has a Ghost Rider tattoo that had to be covered up for the movies, because it would of course be silly if the Ghost Rider had a tattoo of himself :-)

Indeed. However much I like Matrix (I like all three @OP ;-)), it's annoying how any movie that only bits in common with it was (unfavourably) compared to it and stuff like Dark City or eXistenZ (and Equilibrium) never got the credit they deserved.

Honestly, that would probably be the least silly thing in those films. It could probably have been explained away easily enough as the Devil's "brand" or something like that. Anyway, I think those films are utterly terrible, but can also be a lot of fun in the right mood and company.


On a related note - Face/Off is a wonderfully nonsensical film, but it is also a superbly fun watch. It probably has Cage at his best "full on batshit mode".

I also wasn't fan of Star Wars initially, but only for purely idiotic contrarian reasons, i.e. I didn't like it because it was so popular. So I only got to see it the first time when ep I came out on video, when a friend I visiting rented it unbeknownst to me. So ep I ended up being my entry into the SW series, and only after did I seek out the VHSs of the originals. So I kind of became a fan in a backwards way.
Well I was both a kid and a teen in the 90s :) I would expect most people who saw the prequels first (like me) like them more than the average SW fan who became a fan based on the original films. And I'd wager that's more likely to be the case for kids in the 90s as you say.
Tremors seems like it should be a bad movie for some reason, but god damn if it isn't one of the best films ever made!
What other monster movie of that period even comes close? Come to think of it, I still have to watch Arachnophobia

Suspiria, from Dario Argento, later seventies. very interesting and colourful Aesthetics, creative gore, imagination and a terrible movie as a whole afterall. But I love it. I wouldn't know to say if the film is naif "per se" or if it just didn't get old well.

Laugh Killer Laugh (2015) it has 4.9 on IMDB and I absolutely loved that movie. There are many movies with low score which I love but for some reason I'd rather mention this one for now.
