Mere weeks after Peter Steele, we have the death of Ronnie James Dio, one of the pioneers of metal. Dead at 67 from stomach cancer (he was just imitating my sister damnit! No, it was a cover version!)
We've lost a damned good singer who could sing things like Holy Diver and Children Of The Sea as well as things like Love Is All
Been having a metal marathon in his honour

The dude was a real inspiration to many people.

Really shitty deal. On a selfish note, I am heading to Montreal Heavy MTL this summer, and pretty much the biggest metal band I like not playing there was Sabbath. Many people thought there might be a suprise headliner for day two...it won't be sabbath. Really shitty deal, one of the best.

Yeah, it sucks.
Yesterday there was another rumor of his passing, which Wendy Dio had to straighten up. And then, just a few hours later, bam. Damn, no handsign can defend from the power of rumor.
Bloody may, 5 years ago, also in may, we've lost David Wayne. I hate spring.

This is disgusting. The Westboro Baptist Church, infamous for picketing at soldiers funerals and holding up signs that say things like "Soldiers deserve to die", is planning on showing up at Dio's memorial service today to protest his perceived advocacy of devil worship:

If these ignorant bastards knew the first thing about Dio, they would know he was anything but a devil worshiper. He was really a "live and let live" kind of guy who didn't advocate any one belief system over another, though he was often outspoken about the idiocy of fundamentalist Christian groups like the WBC. Frankly I hope the entire Metal Nation shows up at the service to give them a taste of the true consequences of their intolerant ignorance. I know Dio's widow wants people to "turn the other cheek" with these dipshits, but I have rarely seen a group more in need of a righteous beat down than these fools.

They probably do know--or at least the leaders of it probably know? I get the impression they do all that crap for attention and nothing else. They should just be ignored. I remember reading they actually get paid a lot of money whenever someone disrupts one of their protests.

Okay, so you hate gay people, soldiers, Islam, Hinduism (THEY'RE A BUNCH OF FAGS!!!!!!!!11111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Canada, and whatnot. Just don't use God as a reason. I don't even like metal and this pisses me off.

He was an outstanding musician who brought joy to millions, of COURSE he was evil!
Remember that episode of Blackadder where he's trying to con his aunt & uncle out of an inheritance but they were so ultra-puritan that he got hit anytime he said anything? Thats the way dicks like WBC think we should live. They do, however, have a severe case of the jack thompson / paris hilton mental illness, debasing themselves in public in the desperate hope that someone will think they're relevant
