DeadlySkye: Female here. I usually don't announce I'm female or chat online in game. I used to guild chat on WoW and it was kinda rough cause the guys love to flirt and I was taken at the time which was even more awkward for me. CoD: BO was a whole other story. Some communities are welcoming to the ladies, others still have douchebags. One thing that has drove me nuts is the girls that come on to talk and just flirt and do stupid crap for attention. Those girls give the real gamer girls bad names!
Dumbest girl in gaming :)

What? She's not your role model? I'm shocked! =P

Frankly, I think anyone who feels the need to document their oh so mediocre lives in these type of feeds to be pretty dumb. "Hi, I'm an attention whore! Watch me!" Yeeeah. No, thanks. I got better things to do with my life than watch strangers ramble.

I'm enjoying the thread so far.

And honestly, I don't think it should be necessary for people to say what gender they are. People should be able to enjoy what they enjoy without being labeled. But I do think it's a good thing that more females are into gaming, and males are learning how to interact with and react to meeting females in games without being creepy/awkward. Most males have a long way to go, but they're making progress.

amok - that's a damn long paper. I'll have to skim it sometime.

I don't suffer stupid women lightly :) Never have. They give the rest of us a bad name. Actually, I will say she seems like a really nice person and has a very large fan base, but it's the way she "acts dumb" when I don't really think she is that drives me nuts. Typical "girly" behavior. (She does have a nice video up today about her grandfather dying though -- that is touching, I have to admit).

There are some amazing commentators on YouTube though. TotalBiscuit is phenomenal. I also love Necroscope86, The Yogscast, In the Little Wood (Martyn of The Yogscast) and Athene Wins are also amazing.

I figured out this week I now watch about 4 hours of gaming videos a day on YouTube. It's an OBSESSION :)

Short version: (it is centred around online games, AFAIK there has not been any recent study at all on gamin in general)

- 40% of gamers are today (generally) are females (and there are more women over 18 then males under 17 gamers)
- Women play longer then men
- Women players are healthier then men, but men think they are healthier then women
- Men plays more physically aggressive, and male players are more verbally aggressive
- Females under-report more then males how long the play
- Female players are more likely to report being bisexual, and less homosexual, then population estimates

(skipping the parts of playing with a romantic partner)

LOL, I like the point about females under-reporting how long they play. compared to men. Men want to measure and compare the size of their e-penises, just like in real life.

Wasn't there a similar study about how men always say they're more attractive than they actually are, whereas women tend to say they're less attractive?

It must be cool to be a guy. All that ego :)

They do go to fanfiction.com and deviantart.com
As a matter of fact, I'm female.

...Wait, no. False alarm. It's just a little cold right now.
