Yep the two former Infinity Ward heads have started a new studio and they are being backed by EA. The next meeting between Bobby and Johnny should be very interesting. Kotaku
So, I wonder where they are going to jump ship to in ten years :p
Awesome, maybe EA will recognize what they can do for them and pay them the money they deserve.

I highly doubt there was any motivation here other than EA's desire to utterly piss off Activision. I believe Bobby will be retorting with a rendition of John's mum is a big fat bitch.
So after some rough treatment from Activision they go back to another company that treated them like shit? Good for them, I suppose.

Maybe. I still think the whole Activision debacle was just Activision being tightwad spendthrifts who can't look beyond their noses at at the future of their company.

All true but continuing the South Park references John Riccitiello does an excellent version of "I can change, I can change".

EA is shifting around enough to try and give the impression of change, but in reality they've barely budged an inch. In fact in some ways they're worse now.

By ignoring the contracts that they (and IW) signed so that they can give the IW heads more money?
That can lead to very bad things in the long-run. Either it shows favoritism ("We like these guys enough to give them money that they aren't legally entitled to. Tough noogies") or it leads to a new working dynamic (you get massive bonuses for popular games, in addition to the already existing incentives).
Now, I know, you are going to say "But Gundato, isn't that a good thing? Everyone will compete to make the best game they can and we will benefit". And that is true, to an extent. Friendly competition is great for creative juices. But when your paycheck depends on being better than the guy two offices down, you start to essentially function as separate companies. And then we lose things such as "Oh yeah, Fred from the Montreal team came by and gave me some really cool tips on how to get better performance" and "Dude, Jimmy from the Utah team had a REALLY cool idea for a gun"
Are Activision without fault? Probably not (and definitely not after they withheld pay from the remaining IW guys), but neither are the IW heads.
Also, it is worth remembering: This isn't the first time these guys have had to flee from a "big mean company" who helped them make amazing games. Yeah, they were "being treated like poopy" and the like. But WHY were they "treated like poopy"? It takes two to tango.

Well they have changed in one respect. If you make them money they lavish gifts upon you. Like how Bioware were practically given Mythic as their personal plaything. If you don't make money for EA then you will be lucky to last till the end of the week.

That's an improvement though. There are some studios they should have axed long before they did, and rewarding success is not exactly a bad thing.

That is true. These guys should of waited to write a new contract not broken the one they had now. And I forget it is just the heads of IW doing this not the company itself. And sure, what you said would lead to favoritism and all that, but that is how the world works. Saying "Sure other party, for making a game that will sell well for a week then gather dust on a shelf until the cows come home I'll give you the same money as the guys that can put the "Call of Duty" name on a cardboard box containing a pissed off cat and sell millions" is just ridiculous.
They're merely signed on as EA partners, which is the same deal that Valve made with EA to publish the retail copies of the Orange Box. They aren't in danger of being swallowed into EA at this point.
They will lose against Activision in court.

lackoo1111: They will lose against Activision in court.

If they had the contract that Activision claims that they had and were flying off to EA to talk to their execs, it's likely that Activision will win - and have a case against EA for trying to get them to break their contracts.
