Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for Windows contains the following enhancements:

New Adventure: The Black Pits
New Character: Dorn Il-Khan
New Character: Neera the Wild Mage
New Character: Rasaad yn Bashir
A new collection of player character voice sets
Native support for high resolution widescreen displays

Dorn Il-Khan, huh? Long lost relative of Gromnir, I presume?
Wow! It looks like Baldurs Gate!

I already have that game...

htown1980: Based on the responses on this thread I have decided that Baldur's Gate will be a failure.

I assume that people who like good old games would certainly be a big part of the target audience for this game. If they aren't interested, who will be?

Personally, Baldur's Gate (original) is on my backlog of games (and has been for a while) and I will be playing that rather then getting the enhanced edition. I never really got past the mid 90s in terms of rpgs but am looking forward to trying some newer games out.
I don't think the PC market was ever envisioned as the primary source of profit in selling this reboot. It's the Apple and Android folks who are going to buy many more units than PC users I would think.

I think it is going to be a success and that the work on the Infinity engine will be reused to bring more classic titles out as well.

A lot of people using iPads, iOS and Android devices, not to mention Macs have all heard of Baldur's Gate. And then there are the PC users who will be glad to have a new adventure in that world along with the updated features, fixes, etc. to the game.

Also, for all the Apple users it is going to be conveniently available in the App Store. :-)

I don't think a lot of Mac users are going to be interested either; the relatively high price tag and the dated graphics alone are enough to turn away most casual consumers who are after shiny 3D graphics. As for the fans, there are more than a few devotees to the game aside from myself who run Windows copies on WINE (which incidentally works flawlessly). I'm sure it'll sell moderately well, but I wouldn't expect it to sell significantly more than it would on the Windows side.

And given the iPad-centric focus in their earlier press releases, and the lower pricing for it on the iOS App Store, I'd probably expect the bulk of their sales to be from iPad (and soon, hopefully, Android tablet) users too.

I will say though, the MAS would likely be preferable to whatever launcher/Beamdog client Overhaul Games is going to bake into the game.

Maybe, but personally, as someone who games only on apple macs, I won't be buying it. Baldurs gate is so easy to get working on a Mac already. But maybe iPad users will play, it just seems far too expensive.

Yeah, I never said I thought the Mac version will be the sales leader although I disagree with you and think it will also do well in the Mac App Store. It's the iPad and iOS users who will buy the most units I'd say as well as the Android folks.
Im not impressed...

Looks like they took lots of mods and put them together, touch controls, a few new areas that look badly done and low quality.

So...

What have they done except put in mods and ask money for it?

StingingVelvet: Meh... I'd rather see new engines and looks to this classic style, like Dead State.

orcishgamer: On the whole, that's a helluva lot better idea, yeah.
Completely serious this time, the Infinity Engine is still far and away the best engine for a a tactical RPG I've ever seen. I don't know how convenient it is for developers, creating the beautiful, hand-drawn backdrops might take a lot of time, for example, but for me as a player, the depth it offers, while still allowing for easy, complete control of the battlefield, is unparalleled. Dragon Age, the spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate, for instance, falls short in both regards.

And it's not just about the fights, either.

Random example:

There's a quest in BG1 that has you rob a museum of a valuable artifact. You're supposed to do this with the help of an NPC during nighttime, if I remember correctly, but it's actually possible to enter the building alone, during the day, when all the guards are around. These actually have a realistic line of sight, and maybe even can hear, which makes stealing the artifact difficult. The way I completed the quest was by casting a blindness spell on a few guards, which doesn't turn them hostile and allowed me to sneak to and steal the object in question. I'm sure there were many other fun ways to do the quest, all not directly envisioned by the developers.

My point is, I like a good challenge, I like depth, and I love it when games let me figure out stuff and tackle problems on my own, in unique ways. If someone, at some time, comes up with a RPG engine that's as complex and flexible as the Infinity Engine, then great, but at the moment there's simply nothing else like it.
New Baldur's Gate game will be made , on new engine, only if remakes gather enough money, and maybe kickstarter.

Its a small proportion of potential customers compared to the number of people who know of 'Baldur's Gate' and its general acclaim, but lack the understanding or will to visit GOG and buy it.

I've seen pages of 'can't wait to buy' comments in other forums, and praise for the $20 price tag.

I think some current doubters would come around if among the improvements is even easier mod acquisition, installation and support. A central database of game appropriate mods that are one click installs? Baldur's Gate Nexus?

That'd come close to being worth $20. Getting the latest mods for the games right now means hitting multiple websites and forums and installing them in the right order. Community developed mods need a community to test them out. An influx of newly interested players can only improve the number and quality of such mods.

keeveek: and everything looks so blurry on screenshots... Oh, and they added some blood...
avatar
gyokzoli: It gets blurry when you use the new zoom function since BG has pixel graphics.
Begs the question why add it in the first place?
Older games did that better by having fixed zoom levels like 100%, 75%, 50% with sharp level of detail.

First impression is also really meh.

However do we want a new baldurs gate made if they are going to do it? If the quality (so far) and new content is anything to go by from what we have seen? I mean they are just asking people that have made mods to be allowed to have it in the EE version and then they ask money for it... Even the fixes are from fan patches and stuff.

I believe it's because on Full HD everything was too tiny?

TheEnigmaticT: Sadly, when this hits the Android app store, it will have my monies. I am powerless against it.

keeveek: Well, it will be 10 bucks for mobile version, and I think it's a fair price. I don't get why they demand 20 for PC version of the same game...
*Neera the Wild Mage and Dorn Il-Khan are available as in-app purchases on iPad and Android Tablet.

So sadly no... for full content you will have to pay more.
