Wheres' the classy community of the old days?
When I was new, everyone was so hospitable, nowadays we have people rudely instructing new people to go here, do that. The "Welcome, please read" topic isn't that conspicuous either. GoG is a wonderful site for all people, so cut out the tight crap and let's get back our classy community!
Well done to people such as Ralackk and DarrkPhoenix. It's people like you who make GoG great!
As any community grows its original identity becomes lost. It effectively 'myspaces', as the critical mass theory goes. But that doesn't mean we can't stem the tide, mind you. If there's an effort to remain civil and helpful then it should hopefully be passed on to newer members.
Strange, I find the GOG forums to currently be the most mature of any I've been on recently.
Perhaps some of the threads in which this rudeness has surfaced are dealing with contentious issues, in which case there will always be a certain amount of friction.
I fully support the OPs sentiments though.

GOG forums, on the whole, are really very civil. There's definitely a shift from when they first opened though, but still one of the better places on the internet, IMO.

Go to hell. ;)
But obligatory joking aside, I'd say the community is still significantly more classy than most out there (although that may be setting the bar a bit too low). However, I think that since the community has recently grown quite a bit it'll just take a bit of time before some folks' rough edges get smoothed out. In the meantime, it's not surprising that even older members may seem a bit more on edge, as it's more difficult for people to be polite to those they perceive as being rude as opposed to being polite when everyone else is also being polite.

Agreed, it is far more classy, but a little help and direction would be better than vehemently cursing someone..
Yes, GOG is still a classy community and one of the boards i enjoy to visit the most. Of course, we have to remain classy and welcome the newcomers.
BUT I find the rudeness deserved if we have a "rookie" that blatantly ignores the rules of the community and starts his presence here by bitching about what GOG should or shouldn't do. Being classy goes two ways, and I feel there's no need to be classy to whomever doesn't want to be classy.
It can be difficult to be civil when you get a dozen people saying "why isn't Game X here?" or whatever.
People don't take the time to read these days...
I do try and be helpful where I can.

Lou: Just Be Nice

But but i'm evil!
Joking aside.
If you want gog to be more classy we all need to wear top hats.I hear top hats are classy.
All i do is make up jokes and songs that would never be said at most birthday party.
Most of them having to do with my title of necromancer and the pic of a lich i am using right now.
Undeadminon33:Boo your jokes suck get off the stage.
me:Hey i never said they where good jokes.
undeadmion33:Clearly there not.
me:Then you try to come up with some good jokes.
undeadminon33:I would if you didn't just kill off most of my brain cells with your jokes.
me:That it .
undeadminon33:O nuts[starts to run]
me:[cast destroy undead and miss] Get back here you!
undeadminion33:It was worth it.[keeps on running]

On the contrary, being civil when other people are not is absolutely critical. Otherwise a classy community very easily degenerates into a bunch of bickering children. Someone perceives a newcomer as being rude, so they're rude in return, so additional people feel justified being rude, and it just goes downhill from there. On the other hand, responding politely even when the other person is being a dick will often inspire or guilt the other person into acting a bit better, or if the person is just a troll they're likely to get tired to trolling faster if they're not getting a rise out of anyone. Basically you have to ask yourself what kind of community you want to be part of, then contribute to that kind of community through your actions in all circumstances.
Have things gotten worse around here recently? Other than my posts... For the most part I've seen a few heated debates but still don't have the lack of dignity of most of the internet
This is one of the last bastions of classiness on the internet. Please keep it this way :D

I'm very friendly too D:
But I know what you mean. People seem more hostile these days, as compared to yon older days. That's not to say the community has degenerated into a puddling mess, but I reckon we can be nicer at times.
