I did a quick search and it doesn't seem like anyone has yet pointed out this game on the forum. Seeing as I don't expect Microsoft to give us a proper AoE sequel, this is the next best thing. It actually looks kinda cool and I don't think it is that widely known.

The game is ' 0 ad ' and there are some gameplay clips on youtube as well

Yeah, but Microsoft is giving us that crappy phone/tablet version of AOE. As you can tell by their new OS and console, they are done with the PC.

And here's the official website, in case someone's interested:

http://play0ad.com/

It's free and open-source.

(Not my kind of game, but thought it might interest some of the GOGgers around)

I have never ever heard of it. That aside...It looks really nice, we´ll have to wait for them to finish it though, since it seems to be in alpha 15.

Damn, I really liked their April Fool's version. Make that one instead.
I thought there was a proper AOE sequel, AOE 2. :P

The 3rd one seems quite highly rated too:

I own that on disc. It's fun but it is NOT an AOE game and it has zero replay value.

I never got into the 3rd one. I played it for a little while, but Civ IV came out around the same time and between AOE2 and 3 I was playing Civ3. There was just too long of a hiatus on AOE3. AOE2 (1999) and AOE3 (2005)

Hehe my pleasure! As long as the shittiness is not from a certain fuze box and 3 feet of water or something even more scary (a tale, by the way, that reminded me of a southpark episode where kenny had to crawl through sewer pipes to get to a fuze box covered in snow) :P
I never got into the second or third one, although I was able to "enjoy" the second one more than third.

For me it was straight downhill.

One was one of the best games ever made.

Two had it's moments at times.

Three had a moment. or two.

I still play one all the time. Played a scenario today AAMOF.
Looks interesting although I still have all original "Age of ..." - games.

Only it ran like a slug on my 486 at the time. Good memories though: in one LAN match my buddy built a massive fleet of warships before exploring the map. Turns out his fleet was confined to what could only be described as a quaint little water feature on the map...
