My mom finished Wolfenstein 3D before my dad or I did. My parents used to dabble in computer games, but nowadays they only play Wii Sports/Fit or card games on the computer. The latter everyday, at least 3 hours a day each, since they each have their own computer.
Rarely, but it happens. When the SNES was still "the" console to own, my mother would sit glued in front of the TV, playing SimCity, and the whole family would play Mario Kart together, but these days my father plays some Diablo once in a while, and I don't think my mother plays anything. I gave her a copy of SimCity 4, but she never really played it. I did manage to turn my younger sister into a gamer though.
Not even a bit. My mom once briefly let herself get talked into playing Mario Kart when I was a kid, and just drove straight forward without turning. My dad would sometimes play Street Fighter II and Mega Bomberman with me and my brother when we were little. That's about it. Sometimes, when my dad comes to my house, I may be playing a game and will give him a go if he seems to be interested in it, but it's only really with racing games. The idea of him playing something like an RPG or a game like Civilisation is just crazy to me.
They used to play SNES games with us when we were young, later when we moved to PC, my dad sometimes tried some racing games but lost interest quickly and my mom played adventures and liked them but something changed over the course of time and she started to despise gaming.
My Dad only plays Spider Solitaire
My Mom only plays Catan
A friend of mine (who is a parent etc.) said once that he couldn't care less about video/computer games anymore, even though as a teenager he was a bit of a gamer (not very heavy though). And his reasoning was that he likes to experience real things in life, not virtual. I took it to mean he rather goes for a trip abroad with his family or goes to play soccer or some other sports with friends, than getting deep into the virtual worlds of games and internet.

I feel though he didn't have a very good argument though, because I am still sure he e.g. watches movies, TV, reads books, listens to music and so on, none of which I consider any more "real" than video games.

I would have been more contented if he had simply said video gaming has a childish stigma to it, or that they are too time-consuming and involving (ie. you have to learn to play a game; you don't e.g. have to learn to watch a movie, or listen to music on radio).

I don't personally know many, or any, active gamers in my age bracket. The friends who used to be heavy gamers as teenagers have long since stopped playing anything. But then it could also be many people I know don't really advertise it that they play games at home. I don't either, all my gfs etc. have always seemed very surprised when they've found out.

My mother when I was younger used to play 2 player with me or my brother on the Commodore 64, we used to fire up Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands and a few others. Then when the Megadrive / Genesis came along it was Sonic and a fair few other 2 player games.

I am now 39 with kids of my own (or financial drain on your pockets as we refer them to now!). I got back into gaming around 4 year ago after a fair break with very little activity. I tend to be stuck in the house most days now with not being able to work given my condition so gaming stops me going insane!
My mother does enjoy one particular crosswords game on the Ds, and super scribblenauts a bit but only plays with me, not by herself. I have Phoenix Wright to try and introduce to her someday soon, i'm guessing she might like it as she is a reading nerd to the max!
My dad used to play Duck Hunt on NES back in the beggining of 90's.And thats it.He turned out to be hunter..in real life.True story
As for my own parents, I think they were as far from video gamers as you can get. I don't think either one has ever been on internet either. I think my father might have looked from the side in a couple of occasions me playing something a long time ago, but that's all.

I usually find that the thing that attracts non-gamers to watch a game is a good game soundtrack, e.g. how my gf came to watch what I play when she heard the majestic main title tune of Age of Mythology.

Normal sound effects from games, especially if they are related to combat, just pushes them away.

My father used to love playing a centipede style game on my VIC 20. Currently all he's playing is a collection of Solitaire games I bought him some years ago (10 years, probably). He also has a Wii and played a little Wii Sports, but I imagine he's no longer playing it (and he never bought another Wii game). Still, I think it's pretty good for a lad of age 75. My mother doesn't get along too well with technology.

Nope. Although my father did say he played Tetris and some other arcade games, otherwise no my parents don't play video games.
My dad collects video games ad he has a better collection than I do. Xbox, Dreamcast, N64, SNES etc. My father is the one who introduced me to games, I played Mortal Kombat, Wolfenstein 3D and Commander Keen while sitting on his knee before I was even in school. He bought a Gravis Gamepad for his computer just so I wouldn't wail on the keyboard. He introduced me to dozens of PC classics like Wing Commander and Space Quest before he bought us a Sega Genesis to play.

My mother on the other hand has only ever played Day of the Tentacle. Any other game she could not get any enjoyment out of. I distinctly remember showing her Sonic the Hedgehog and she said "this is stupid".
