I shit you not. Charles Cecil of Revolution Software (famous for Broken Sword among others) has been hired by the BBC to write an episodic Doctor Who adventure game, consisting of 4 monthly parts. And it will be free (at least to UK residents anyway).
What gets me is this:
Generally the gameplay is driven by stealth, minigames and a little bit of object interaction. But it’s not an adventure in that you are scratching your head trying to work out how to use two abstract objects together.

What this effectively means is that we're not getting a Doctor Who themed Broken Sword concept, but an In Cold Blood concept.
In Cold Blood is, to this date, the only game I want a refund from GOG for. I don't think adding a Sonic Screwdriver into the mix will help it at all.

1) The games are free.
2) The games are being made by Sumo Digital. Uncle Charlie is only involved as is Moffat.
3) Jumping the gun on the hate ain't you?

I don't hate the idea at all. I'm just worried that it'll be dodgy.

I'm actually quite optimistic. Sumo are decent developers and Steven Moffat is overseeing the whole project. It also helps that Moffat himself is a gamer so he's likely to know if the game will be crap.
Hey, I liked In Cold Blood.
I assume that this if this is free in UK, it'll be pay for everywhere else, maybe even delayed or region restricted like their iPlayer?

Sorry, was in bed. ICB was a brilliant game if slightly wonky in the controls, if they manage to fix that and make a really solid dr who story, it could be the best dr who game ever made, even better than Dalek Attack or Destiny Of The Doctors
Okay its not much of a challenge, a kick in the bollocks is better than those games but there's potential in doing something beyond trading on the name alone. I'll reserve my ascerbic bile until after I've gotten the game, either legitimately or through other methods when it's "not available in your region"

And what the hell was wrong with ICB? It was a very decent game not to see a good one. It was polished, smart, cleverly combined combat with cunning & stealth and had a good setting. It still looks good for its age.
The controls were very clunky though, as much as I love the game its undeniable
WHAT IF THE DOCTOR WHO GAME SUCKS
will it tarnish your doctor who memories?

New screenshots have been posted here. The real geeks like me will have noticed the Cybermen no longer have the stupid Cybus logo so these look like the 'proper' Cybermen. Phil Ford (Meh) and James Moran (YAY) are writing the scripts.

Yes, obviously Doctor Who would be Ruined FOREVER,

I've seen The Twin Dilemma, Love And Monsters, every episode with dodo chaplet and played Dalek Attack, trust me my memories of Dr Who already have a thick crust of tarnish and I still love the hell out of the show. The new games can be crap but they'd have to really work at it to add any more tarnish to the name

Always thought that the proper cybermen should fight the cybusmen and eradicate them from the canon once and for all. If nothing else just to remove the utterly unneeded 'delete' catchphrase

A bit but they weren't THAT horrible - just took some getting used to. It doesn't turn it into a game you'd return.
