Ah, I get it. :D No, it was just me being careless in posting the link.
I have also been looking for something to do this... have not came across anything great. You would think that something like this would be out there as it doesn't seem to be something hard to program.

Right now all my GOG shortcuts sit in a folder on the desktop which is incredibly slow loading. Apparently I remember reading something about GOG having a big announcement for June E3... my hope is it's an optional game client.

If you're unsatisfied with what's out there why not try making your own? What is a game launcher? Something with:

1) An interface/GUI (buttons, tables/box-columns)
2) That saves the directory of an executable in a list ("Skyrim" ---> steam/common.../.exe)
3) And allows you to run it (button > click to run > <directory for .exe>)
4) And possibly batch categorize it (either a batch sort or by placing each in a moveable thingy)

The less you know how to do, the more minimalistic it will be. I'm sure someone can amend the above to appropriate programming terms as I'm always at the novice level, but it shouldn't be all that difficult to learn and implement. Visual Basic Express could be used for the GUI part, since if you were a c++ maestro in that Qt thing you wouldn't need to ask about it. :P

Otherwise you have to settle for what's out there.

If i recall correctly, wasn't a GOGger attempting to do that a while back? *cant remember what it was called tho*

I hid the link in my long post above, but here it is again: GamesDektop.
I was just looking at this very topic earlier today, and came across these. The second is a pay to use GUI for £10, and looks quite swish, but the first is from SourceForge and so free:

Game Launcher (Source Forge)

Photon Game Manager
Maybe try 8start Launcher - not specifically/ exclusively games focused, but it might work well for your purpose.

GameLauncher is the software I wrote in my original thread that installed all sorts of unwanted software before even launching the actual GameLauncher installer. It was borderline spyware, which is strange considering it's offered on sourceforge.

Rainmeter is definitely the most promising solution I have found but I did notice a weird thing; it prevents your PC from 'idling' and keeps your monitor active. I did not fool around with it too much, so I didn't give much of a chance.

Photon Game Launcher was definitely up there, but the 10$ price point wasn't my forte. I checked and installed it and did not like most of what I saw. It didn't pick up my STEAM folder even though it's one of its features. Go figure.

Meagre seems like something I might be needing to test.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I haven't posted much on the forums here, but I think I may start.

I'll keep an eye out and try posting what I've done (after my moving from this house into another)

PEACE

Didn't see that, sorry. Yeesh, you're right, doesn't sound like SF though. The hell with that.

Do note how no software is "from SourceForge", but from each developer (or team of developers). SourceForge is merely a distribution platform (with source code versioning, but I doubt there's anything saying you have to use that and share the ource).

Certainly. Should clarify - in the time I have downloaded and installed software from SF (that is, located using the SF website) I have never personally seen anything that would install lots of other software at the same time as was described by machstem.

I also need to say that I have only seen Game Launcher on Source Forge, but haven't had a chance to try it out myelf yet. It was simply serendipity that I was looking for something like this on the same day that I saw this thread start here on gog.com and thought I'd share.

Sadly, this sounds exactly like sourceforge nowadays.

On topic, what would set a game launcher apart from just any of the many program launchers there are? Some of them might be just as suitable for games only, if we knew your criteria.

I just tested monitor idle whilst Rainmeter was running, it worked.
Perhaps there are some Rainmeter skin setups that have something weird that can prevent that & I just got lucky with mine ;)
