Is it dosbox game? If so find the game's conf file in it's install folder and edit the line that says cycles to a lower number.
GameRager: Thanks, but I have the CD Rom game of RB3D. It installs to Windows. It can be started from DOS however.

Would purchasing the Red Baron pack help??

Run the game in dos via dosbox if you know how to set it up, and adjust the cycles in dosbox's conf file for the game.
I can run the game in dos, but do not know how to open or adjust the cycles in dos box. Can you assist me in this??

In DOSBox, Ctrl-F11 slows it down and Ctrl-F12 speeds it up.

Or, like in the newer versions, auto scales.

?
Eyeball: I am not sure how to do this?
Do I go to the dos prompt and bring up Sierra\RedBaron3D command and then hit Ctrl F-!!
or am I supposed to do something else?
I did go the prompt and hit CTRL +F-11, but no change in the speed.

Ah the reason it's not working is because you're not running it in DOSBox. DOSBox is a DOS emulator (which is why you can change the speed).

http://www.dosbox.com/

Get DOSBox and I'll try and guide you through setting the game up in it.
I downloaded dosbox and put the dosbox main in my x86 directory and created a subdirectory called oldgames and put rb3d in it, but I cannot get the key to allow me to backslash when trying to identify games in the oldgames directory. How do I key the backslash???

That's really odd, backslash works for me...

EDIT: Google came up with this thread, it might help you:

EDIT2:

The readme says:
KEYBOARD: I can't type \ or : in DOSBox.
This can happen in various cases, like your host keyboard layout does not
have a matching DOS layout representation (or it was not correctly
detected), or the key mapping is wrong.
Some possible fixes:
1. Use / instead, or ALT-58 for : and ALT-92 for \.
2. Change the DOS keyboard layout (see Section 8: Keyboard Layout).
3. Add the commands you want to execute to the [autoexec] section
of the DOSBox configuration file.
4. Open the DOSBox configuration file and change the usescancodes entry.
5. Switch the keyboard layout of your operating system.

Note that if the host layout can not be identified, or keyboardlayout is
set to none in the DOSBox configuration file, the standard US layout is
used. In this configuration try the keys around "enter" for the key \
(backslash), and for the key : (colon) use shift and the keys between
"enter" and "L".

Eyeball: I managed to get dos box set up. Having the following problem: Red Baron game is under directory Sierra\RedBaron3d. I got dosbox to recognize the directory Sierra but when I backslash for redbaron3d where the executible is I get directory not found. Also when I get sierra directory and then check contents I only see about 6 files one of which is the setup file. When I run this setup file I get the message that this is a windows program. Also when i attempted to backslash to the redbaron3d subdirectory I was told that the name was longer than 8 characters. I then went back in and changed the name of RedBaron3d to just RedBaron, but dos box told me the directory did not exist. Any further ideas on this problem??

Well, looking this game up I see that it is a windows game so I'm afraid DOSBox isn't going to help you here.

I was mislead when you said "It can be started from DOS however". If it really is a windows game then you won't be able to run it in DOS and therefore DOSBox won't help. Sorry!
