Goatbrush: I prefered the storyline in the base Alan Wake, which is I guess the main appeal of the game - but I thought the gameplay 'felt' better in American Nightmare, responsiveness of the weapons and whatnot. Probably because the DLC/sequel was more combat based.
Yeah, same here. Plus, I wasn't so stressed out by AW:AN as I am while playing horror games without an empowered character. Plus, no respawns. Once you cleared the location, you cleared it, no hordes of enemies discouraging me from exploring.

realkman666: That's my only gripe with the game! WTF are these for? Perhaps it was a Microsoft requirement.

Smannesman: They are called 'collectibles' and on systems with achievements (Steam, Live) you unlock achievements by collecting them.
You're right. They were such a stupid eyesore.

To be fair.. yes.
I like collectibles only when they actually do something in the game itself.
The pages do give you a story though.. if I remember correctly.

Of course. But these bottles, always glowing and being useless really annoyed me.
alan wake is awesome.

"CHILDREN OF THE ELDER GOD!"

"CHILDREN OF THE ELDER GOD!"
wahwahwahwahwah!
I've barely played it, just to see how well it runs on two of my PCs. Other than that, too many other games in the pipeline, it'll have to wait for now.

CthuluIsSpy: American Nightmare...not so much. Mr. Scratch was probably the best thing in the game.

iippo: That "game" ought to be erased from existence.
But...the Happy Song. And Mr. Scratch's delightfully hammy performance.
I just love ham. Its just so tasty. Especially evil ham.

Asturaetus: It was an OK game. The story quite cool - had this feel of an old american tv series and the soundtrack was great.
That would be because Alan Wake is heavily influenced by Twin Peaks.

Played the original and I loved it. One of the best horror games I've played, made me anxious a lot of times.. and that shadow far away on the bridge level.. creepy! :O :-)

I don't usually play 3rd person action games anymore but when I saw the name "Stephen King" written at the intro I was hooked.. I haven't played the American Nightmare yet.. I was focused in other games lately.
Liked the base game. Thought the first DLC was okay. Liked the second DLC.

American Nightmare was kinda fun if you ignore the story. Heh.

Deadly Premonition is the jam though.
I have the CE on 360 with the hardback book, best version of the ga
I completed the first game and abandoned American Nightmare (I have to correct that).
I liked a lot the story and atmosphere, but I think it was too combat centered. I'd have liked more horror and exploration than repetitive shooting. I hate respawning enemies :(.
I loved both Alan Wake and American Nightmare.
Although the story was the main draw in AW, I enjoyed how it bounced back and forth from sane to insane, then at the end the reveal of what he was actually battling.
American Nightmare was more action based, but the story even gave a reason why, he had learned to control parts of the world. Which is why he was then fighting himself, or his demons.

My favorite part of the entire game though was when War came on the radio and the entire room was filled with the dark-ones. Nail biting stuff I thought the first time through.

I really do wish Remedy would do a proper story driven sequel to Alan Wake.
I bought both games and loved the first one. I never had the time to play American Nightmare, but I'll give it a shot soon...
