Why not, you sad excuse for a human being? (or spider being)

I played both Alan Wake and American Nightmare.
Alan Wake was pretty good.

American Nightmare...not so much. Mr. Scratch was probably the best thing in the game.

This. I loved sthe plot of AW, so I expected a "sequel" from American Nightmare. Well, it wasn't. It was boring and repetitive, sadly, with an uninteresting plot.
I prefered the storyline in the base Alan Wake, which is I guess the main appeal of the game - but I thought the gameplay 'felt' better in American Nightmare, responsiveness of the weapons and whatnot. Probably because the DLC/sequel was more combat based.
Finished both multiple times :D
I have, wasn't really all that impressed with it but I've completed it.

That "game" ought to be erased from existence.

The story may have been interesting, but the gameplay was too tiresome (what sort of useless batteries exist in this alternate reality world?!) for me to go through all of the game.
I found the first section of Alan Wake to be truly exciting - as in, sitting up in my chair and thinking, Wow, this game is FANTASTIC! And being blown away in general. It struck me as one of those change-the-world games, with the concept fitted neatly into the technology, so that the game world felt full of detail and possibilities.

I continued to enjoy it as the game unfolded, but found that I am quite terrible at the combat, which means endless replays of the fight scenes. I finally got stranded in the wreckage of the tourist lodge and the ranger station, though I'm sure I'll go back to it one of these days. It's great fun, but the combat feels rushed and sloppy to me, especially compared to how good the rest of the game world feels. (Then again, I may just be making excuses to explain away my poor flashlight and gun skillz.)

Dollar store copies of Energizer batteries.
Best horror game for me: amazing play of light and dark, where you're fearing every dark corner without light. I've enjoyd original game and Nightmare is just crappy DLC.
It was an OK game. The story quite cool - had this feel of an old american tv series and the soundtrack was great. But gameplaywise it didn't impress me. No, I have to say it was tedious. I mean at the beginning the fights still felt fresh. This rush of being chased by creepy fellas, dodging axes, fighting them off.

But somewhere along the lines you come to realize that it is just always the same. There isn't much besides fighting in this game. The day scenes are merely transitions. There is nothing that adds a little variety to the gameplay. And it doesn't help that you can't start off in the higher difficulies right off the bat. So it is too easy.

Furthermore fighting is entirely pointless. In most areas enemies just endlessly respawn and all you actually have to do is just run to the next lightsource occasionaly pointing your flashlight at enemies that got to close - to let them stumble back a little. No point in shooting them. Would just be a waste of ammo with the next enemy just waiting to spawn.

And then all these pointless collectibles. Don't let me get started of this shit. I mean what was the point of these teacans and all the other stuff scattered about? Just being there to somehow lengthen the game? No added gameplay value whatsoever.

That's my only gripe with the game! WTF are these for? Perhaps it was a Microsoft requirement.

They are called 'collectibles' and on systems with achievements (Steam, Live) you unlock achievements by collecting them.
