SimonG: You mean like we've became overly depenend on electricity, cars, antibiotics? All extremely creepy high tech when it came out.
Cars still creep me...
I'm not committed, but leaning heavily towards getting one. I have an iPhone 4 at the moment...

Factors
- LTE - This will be a big deal for me. My iPhone is all about data
- More screen (I'm not one that needs it that desperately, I like the compactness of my 4. I like how they did it though, I imagine landscape is probably miles better for typing)
- Nicer screen - though my 4 screen is still gorgeous.
- A6 chip (need speed)
- (slightly) better battery
- HD voice - if supported
- much nicer camera (and quite a bit of DSP to back it up). We'll see how this plays out in practice. Not as good as the Lumia 920 of course but I don't want to buy into that platform.
- dual band wifi - because 5GHz rox in an apartment complex.

If I had a 4S it wouldn't be all that worth it. All those things above are pretty compelling though.

While I wouldn't want to sway your opinion in any way, I think some of those requirements contradict. If you're going to be using LTE, your slightly better battery will be a hell of a lot better at running out, and your faster chip will be processing a lot more data. Same goes for the wifi. I've read that one of the main costs to battery and processor is the switch between a 4G (or what is now called 4G) and a 3G signal, the same for going from 3G down to 2G.

According to the HonestTruth(tm) from Apple, the battery life is similar even with higher loads & demands of the new stuff. The CPU is apparently fabbed using a 32nm process instead of the 45nm process from the A5 (and I only have an A4 in my iPhone 4).

It's kinda like the new iPad, monstrous new battery but only slightly improved battery life. They're just doing a lot more with it.

If I'm doing a lot of LTE stuff, I don't expect the battery to be as robust as if I'm sitting at home reading ebooks on it.
