Tallima: Ooo. A multiplayer Rogue-like would be fun. Good idea!

Out of curiosity, what are you building this with?
I'm writing it from the ground up with Java using Eclipse. It uses LWJGL for OpenGL graphics and OpenAL sound/music.

I chose Java because I will port it for Android once the Windows version is done.
Descent is like a slightly more complex HeroQuest, so yea, you are correct about the two being similar.

And a multiplayer/party based rouge like, now you have really managed to catch my attention.
This looks like it can be a game that I'll spend way too much time playing.
Don't let GOG distract you from finishing it. :)
Interesting. I am kinda sad, that it is another fantasy thing, but ok. Next time ;)

But I defenitely play it. Even for money :P

adambiser: I also want the player to have the ability to right click on a creature to see their stats, but perhaps that wouldn't be necessary. Let them learn through trial-and-error. :)
And how about 'kill 20 enemies to gain access to their stats' mechanics? It works quite well (in D1 + Brogue(??) + ...) and I think it is a smart way to have both things.

The next game using this engine will be sci-fi, after that, who knows? :)

I'll dig around for that and see what you mean. I'm just as happy not showing the player, too. :)

Heh, it has been slow-going, but mainly due to other things taking my free time. Hopefully you'll enjoy it when it gets released. :)

Well, hopefully I'll manage to keep your attention whenever it gets released. :)

Some things may or may not be in the initial release but will make it in through updates. For example, I don't see multiplayer making it in the initial release, but single player party-based play just might.

Can you make it balanced for only one character play too? Both party and single character that is.

Yes, or at least that is my goal. :) The game will have certain factors adjusted when you add more characters to the party (more enemies, tougher enemies...).

Balance is a very tough thing to achieve, so I can only say that it is my goal.

Great!
Have you also considered that sometimes you'd want to kick the other party members and go solo again? Difficulty wise.

Well, for now the game is relatively short and is to be played in one sitting. There's not even any save functionality for it. So I hadn't really thought about the ability to kick out members...

Ok. Put that in the expansion or something. :)
Just wanted to let anyone who is interested in this know that the game is currently in limited beta testing and I think things are looking pretty good so far even though it still has several things that need completed and tested before release.

I'll try to post some screenshots and maybe a new video within the week.

If anyone would like to see this game on GOG, please vote for it on the wishlist.

Thanks!
Neat! I enjoyed your previous Wolf 3D TC (what was its name again?) so this gets my vote for sure.

Here are some more screenshots from the game.

Anyone care to help beta test the game? You need to be able to dedicate some time to playing through it many times. I hoping this will get released by year's end.

The game requires Java 7 and uses OpenGL.

Also, if you'd like to see this on GOG, please vote for it on the wishlist!

Thanks!
