BlackMageJ: Langrisser: The Art of Swords War.

It's an enhanced port of a console game, very much in the mould of Fire Emblem and Shining Force. Only trouble is, it was only released in Japan- it's been translated though, so it's perfectly playable, it just might be hard to get hold of legitimately.
avatar
AFnord: Aye :( I've heard of the Langrisser series (Warsong in the western world, only released on Mega Drive), but getting a legitimate copy will probably be hard and/or expensive.
avatar
JudasIscariot: Well, I guess this counts Master of Magic right out, then :P

(no, I don't want the keys, I just like attempting to make suggestions :D)
avatar
AFnord: Sadly, yes. I already have MoM, but it is a strategy game (one that I really enjoyed)
avatar
lowyhong: Fantasy General is the best turn-based fantasy wargame I've ever played. Now, to get a copy of it though, that's a different story...
avatar
AFnord: I've already played that one :(

AFnord: Is Elemental not a strategy game? I looked at the first one, but it was apparently downright broken. Sadly strategy is now what I'm looking for right now.
Elemental(E wom) its a huge fail but Fallen Enchantress is better then Master of Magic or any other turn based fantasy/strategy/rpg.

Oh hey what about Knights of the Chalice?
avatar
AFnord: Legends of Eisenwald seem to be just what I'm looking for!
But its not released :( Dang it. Still, I think that pointing me in the direction of that game is enough to warrant giving out a key
What about their previous game Discord Times?

Would HP Lovecraft be fantasy-y enough?

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Lands seems to be a kind of X-Com/Jagged Alliance sort of thing with eldritch abominations. Haven't played it myself, but it's on my 'pick up one day when the Android version's on special offer' list.

mrcrispy83: Eh this is kind of a bad genre to ask suggestions for PC games, since for the most part japanese developers leaned towards making tactical based "strategy" games for consoles while western/pc market is oriented more towards broader simulation/strategy based "strategy" games.

main one I can think of offhand is Vantage Master Online. It's free, at any rate.
http://hardcoregaming101.net/vantagemaster/vantagemaster.htm

Maybe Langrisser? Mostly the console ones like Der Langrisser and Langisser 4 got translated, but there's a disc image of a korean PC port that got fully translated floating around.
http://hardcoregaming101.net/langrisser/langrisser.htm

as far as wii games go, the only ones I can think of are Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn and Phantom Brave. You'd have more options if you had a Ps2 or PSP or what have you (or were open to emulation).
Oh, vantage master, I remember playing that one somewhere around 2003 (I think). It was pretty nice, but the sound effects were not very good.

There are actually a fare amount of games that more or less fits what I'm looking for, with one or two exceptions. The Panzer General series is not far off, nor is Rites of War, and heck, even Incubation and Chaos Gate are almost there.
It's not for PC, but you mentioned that you had a Wii that you wouldn't rule out. If you'd want to use the backwards compatibility on it, Gladius for the GameCube seems like it would fit your requirements. Here's a link for video review about it: http://youtu.be/7DzZaOQWe9g
I haven't played this game, but have you heard of Drakensang? From what I've heard about it, I'd imagine it might just tickle your fancy.
Did you tried Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, AFnord?
Knights of the Chalice video. I think you'll like it.
FE is similiar game to MoM, FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre etc if you like fantasy tbs must try this game :D

All battles (from small to epic) are tactical.

AFnord: <snip>
Well, seeing as you're knocking them all down, perhaps you can help me with one. There was a TBS a very long time ago. You played either Marines or Orcs, It looked like a bit of a W40K rip off, except the orcs were carrying old world axes. It had the word Spell in the title I think. Your troops gained exp as they fought, and got little stars beneath them. I think it was square based, though might have been hex based. It was before warcraft 2 I think, I only played the demo. Always wondered what it would have been like. Thoughts?

Sadly more of a strategy game, as far as I can tell.

Not quite. I know, I have a tricky itch to scratch right now, but the reason why I'm after a bright & colorful fantasy game is because I find them to be cozy and charming. While CoC: TWL is a good game (I've played it a bit, when I borrowed my sister's android pad), it is not quite what I'm after.

That looks interesting! But why is it so expensive?! I'll have to keep my eyes out for it, in case it drops in price (with postage, it would cost me almost as much as a new game)

Stooner: Did you tried Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, AFnord?
I was under the impression that that is basically a puzzle game with Might & Magic characters. Am I wrong?

FraterPerdurabo: I haven't played this game, but have you heard of Drakensang? From what I've heard about it, I'd imagine it might just tickle your fancy.
The two Drakensang games are straight up CRPGs, with Baldur's Gate-ish combat. Good, but not what I'm looking for (and getting River of Time is a pain in the rear for anyone not living in the US). RoT is the better of the two games).

avatar
lowyhong: Knights of the Chalice video. I think you'll like it.
Sadly I've already played that one as well. It made interesting use of the OGL (Open Game Licence, basically the D&D 3.5 ruleset)

I found a LP of it from the beta, and it does look quite interesting. But it is not out yet (well, apparently you can play the beta if you pre-order. Have you played it, and if so, is it in a playable state yet?
