I gave up on Lost 1/2 way through the first season as I had the impression it was going to end in one big disappointment.
Now it's over, (apparently), can anyone say whether the whole thing hangs together in a satisfying way, or of they were making it all up as they went along?
If it all works, maybe I'll grab the DVDs and try again. If not, well I guess I saved a lot of time... ;-)
NB/ this thread isn't for discussing the plot or details or reasons.... just an overall thumbs up or down.

I disliked the ending lore-wise. There was so much there and they decided to leave it up to the fans to interpret, which does feel like somewhat of a cop-out. However, the characters were so well-done and (dare I say it?) complex that it made it a very emotionally satisfying show.
But yeah, it wasn't exactly as philosophically mind-blowing as I hoped it would be in the end, quite the opposite. Will re-watch it some time down the road, still.

One of the best TV shows I've watched (and I have seen quite a few...)
I feel a bit down after the finale, need something else now.
I'll be moving on to The Wire (seen S1 already) and BSG I think.

The Wire is amazing. Probably my favorite TV show of all time.

The Wire and BSG are constantly feuding in my mind for the position of all-time favorite show. Objectively speaking (if it's even possible to be objective about this), The Wire is probably much better than BSG, but I have a soft spot for the Little Remake-of-a-Star-Wars-Ripoff That Could.
As for Lost . . . I didn't hate the finale. Which was a surprise, given how much the season has disappointed me so far. It was a cop-out in many ways, and most of the characters had been rendered so two-dimensional over the years that I just didn't care about them anymore, so the schmaltzy emotional climax fell flat. But somehow, I thought it was pretty okay on the whole.
That being said, the only great season the show had was its first, but the rest is still entertaining enough.

I stopped watching after the first season. I would have preffered it be about like living on an island and trying to escape instead of all that weird stuff.

Good show.
I gave up half way the 2nd season and started watching again at the end of the 4th.
Although I missed out on some stuff, I was able to follow the story from there.
It kept you wondering what was going on.
The ending was a disappointment.
The future will show if it really was a milestone in tv history, which I think it will be, or not.
The most refreshing thing about it in my opinion however, wasn't the show itself.
It was the way foreign countries were treated with broadcasting rights.
Instead of having to wait months or even a year to see it on tv, we had to wait a lot shorter with this 1.
I think here in The Netherlands it was a few weeks starting during season 3 or 4, than 3 days in the last season.
The last episode was broadcasted the same day in several countries.
Very convenient for foreign viewers who don't have to wait and choose to download it instead.
Also very convenient for the creators as it means more foreign viewers, thus more revenue from sales abroad.
I hope other production companies will follow up on this approach.

Loved the first season. But after watching the first episodes of season 2 i got lost.. Stopped watching and haven't seen one episode after that. Might buy it when the complete box set comes avaliable

I've watched Lost all the way through, and while I didn't hate the ending, I just felt it was... weak. Very, very weak.
A review I read put it quite succinctly: "All along, Lost seemed to be a story. Until the end, when it wasn't. In the end, it was just a bunch of stuff that happened."
