As long as it's co-op instead of competitive it sounds like a nice idea.

Mass Effect MMO. It was hinted years ago, just after the first game in fact. There will still be an actual ME3 and probably 4,5 &6

Yeah, they already said the franchise won't end after mass effect 3.
They'll probably do this first multiplayer title, a mass effect movie, then move to mass effect mmo... as they won't compete, initially, with their own mmo child I guess, the old republic.

As long as they churn out an excellent single player game, I won't be complaining about any extra added on multiplayer.

I suspect it might be like BioShock 2's multiplayer, which had different designers and was overall a separate component of the experience; despite this major new addition BioShock 2 still had the full single player campaign.
