This was THE game that sold me on gaming. There is no other game I remember more fondly. Just seeing those screenshots takes me back to another time.
Instant buy. I have no more to say.
I actually didn't play this on the PC, but on the SNES. This game and Flashback were two of my favorites. I always felt like Another World really needed a true sequel though...
Agreed, $9.99 is a bit high when GOG.com has other great games for $5.99. I clicked to buy without looking at the price than canceled my purchase. I already own the retail version (aka: Out of this World). If it was $5.99 I might have bought this version to support GOG, but $9.99 is a bit high when there are other GOG release I want to get. If this included Flashback, which is not the sequal but similar, than I would consider it at $9.99.
I'll buy it!
Any good game for 10 bucks and under is a good deal. Especially when you compare it to something like...I dunno...going to a two hour movie.
Pretty awesome game. remember being so impressed by it at the time. The first few sequences are stunning.
I don't think i ever finished it though, i got stuck in some trial-and-error section rolling through some tiny steamy pipes.
The trial and error gameplay is a little frustrating time, but most of the time (except the steamy tunnel!) the good use of checkpoints didn't make it too bad.

Vandal: Sorry guys, the price point is what's been agreed upon with the license holders. Hope you enjoy the game anyway!

Don't worry, we know you GOG people always do your best. We all love you, no matter what.
PS/ You guys owe me a beer!
I agree, the price is a little low. Should have been $15.
Jeez, people. All time classic, remade with HD graphics (but including the original as well). And you're complaining?
Oh well, finally GOG is starting to put some hard bits on his promise of being a retrogaming reference. :-)
I'll buy this asap and I'm looking forward to get Flashback (very probable) and the first two Prince of Persia too....

BrainCandy: I have always liked the concept of the game but there was too much percision timing, which reminded me of Drangon's Lair. Does the game give you more choices later on, or is it more or less a pretty movie where you need to press buttons at the right time to keep it moving? This is what it seemed to me to be from the first couple of minutes. If there is more to it, I'd like to know. I might give it another try--and at the bargain price of $9.99.

It's really not like that much, but there are some sequences where you have to figure out the timing. For an example, you might need to reach a certain location on the screen to hit a button or set up a shield, and if you run a step too far you won't time to cross back and place shields with sufficient spacing to protect yourself until somebody opens a door. There are also plenty of traps or lethal events you can only avoid with foreknowledge. If enduring this sort of thing every now and then makes you angry enough to spoil the experience, avoid the game.
On the other hand, most of what you do in the game won't involve that. You will spend a good amount of time figuring out how the world works, tracing connections between rooms, sometimes retracing your steps, otherwise analyzing your surroundings, and having some pretty awesome gunfights. What makes the gunfights interesting is that your weapon has limited charge in it and you'll need to decide how to divvy it up between conventional blasts, the shields it can lay down, and the super blast which can penetrate shields & doors. Almost every situation does have one correct approach, but the feel of it is a bit closer to Metroid 3 or the original Prince of Persia than it is to Dragon's Lair.

It you watch for 40 seconds from the 10:18 mark (the link should start you off there), you can get an idea for how this works that doesn't give away too much. I don't remember the game well enough to say for certain if the way he approaches the situation is a puzzle solution or just good fighting, but after watching twice I've already forgotten the details so it's probably safe to look at.
I also bought it almost 4 years ago. The price is still the same (paid 7 euro) so it' strange that gog got it for 1$ more. Well it comes with some freebies (not avaible on the site except some small rotoscoping video) that given the name couldn't count a that 1$ surplus but I still think it's worth it (the game can be beaten in less than half hour, but it has so much to give in that time).
I'll probably buy it again here, but I have to think a while about it.
For the records, for whom that wish to see Heart of the Alien with such a similar treatment, I ha ve to say that when I bought the anniversary edition years ago, I mailed Chahi to ask him about that. Well sadly he didn't like that game much and confirmed that there was no plan for an anniversary edition of that game.
It's a pity that we haven't see more of what that guy can do in these years.
