Empire Rising

Moebius, a contemporary metaphysical adventure from the master storyteller Jane Jensen, the creator of Gabriel Knight and Grey Matter, is available 20% off for pre-order for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com. That's only $23.99 until April 15, when the game is expected to arrive. Pre-order now, and play the 2-chapter GOG.com exclusive demo while you wait for the release!

When a secretive government agency enlists Malachi Rector to determine whether a murdered woman in Venice resembles any particular historical figure, he is left with nothing but questions. Why would the U.S. government hire him--a dealer of high-end antiques--to look into a foreign murder? Why does David Walker, a former Special Forces operative he meets in his travels, feel like someone Malachi’s known all his life? And how come everytime Malachi lets his guard down, someone tries to kill him?

Moebius is a contemporary adventure that merges classic point-and-click puzzle solving with Jane Jensen’s sophisticated storytelling. Travel the world using Malachi’s unique deductive powers to analyze suspects, make historical connections, and uncover the truth behind a theory of space and time the government will defend at any cost. This thrilling new adventure game from master storyteller Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight, Gray Matter) and Phoenix Online Studios (Cognition, The Silver Lining) introduces Malachi Rector, an expert in antiquities whose photographic memory and eye for detail transform people and clues into interactive puzzles.

If you miss the times when adventure games were played mostly for the great and immersive storytelling, not just for the puzzles, humor, and views, be sure to pre-order Moebius for $23.99 on GOG.com. That's 20% off the full post-release price, and you'll get to set the mood for the game with the full soundtrack (MP3/FLAC), available instantly. You can also jump right in to action with the GOG.com-exclusive demo, covering the first two chapters of the game! The 20% off special pre-order discount offer lasts until April 15, when the game is set for launch.
Hey, this is not Moebius at all !!

GOG.com: storyteller Jane Jensen, the creator of Gabriel Knight and Grey Matter
Speaking of Gray Matter, I wonder who currently has the rights. dtp entertainment is defunct, maybe Cranberry Productions?

At 500+ wishlist votes I hope it appears. http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/gray_matter
I loved Cognition: Erica Reed Thriller. Is this in the same vein?

deonast: It hasn't made it to steam either despite being greenlit I heard apparently the distributor went broke and that has tied it all up in legal issues or apathy.
avatar
Novotnus: But (I think) Jane Jansen still holds the rights? She was talking about making a sequel...
She probably holds the rights to the IP so can make sequels but I'd suspect distribution rights might be tied up with that company. Still I could be completely wrong, but it is odd to have not gone on steam being that it is a huge platform who are receptive to selling it.
Never heard of it, but looks interesting. Wishlisted for now :)
The Queen of Adventure Games is back!
Another backer here. I've inquired about GOG codes for backers on Pinkerton Road's forum, still no reply.

lists Viva Media as the publisher, and so does [url=http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-GREY/gray-matter]Gamersgate. It appears that Viva Media holds the rights for world wide digital distribution.

ShinyLoot carries a number of DRM-free adventure games published by Viva Media (Alter Ego, Black Mirror 2 & 3, Lost Chronicles of Zerzura & Memento Mori). All of them are on the Wishlist, but have few votes (the Black Mirror games doing much better than the rest).

Ha, wtf, I probably shouldn't just look at Wikipedia for info. :P

In any case, thanks. I'll try to shoot Viva Media an email. Again, at 500 wishlist votes, good reception, and already DRM-free elsewhere, I think this game has a place on GOG!

EDIT: WTF, verify-email says the address provided is bad. And Viva Media hasn't tweeted in quite some time. Ugh. I may let this rest for a little while, then perhaps check LinkedIn for Viva Media people. (Or somebody else can do that. :P)

Welcome :-)

I've noticed that Wikipedia seems to have outdated info regarding publishers in a number of cases, so I've made it a point to cross check their info with that on other sites.
You can download the demo from POS site: http://store.postudios.com/products/moebius-empire-rising-pre-order
Protagonist has no beard, I can't buy this.

The announcement by Jane Jensen in the backer forum states the following:
MOEBIUS PUBLIC DEMO:

We also have a public demo which you can grab if you want to see the final state of the game now. It's all of chapter 2.
So, if GOG's description is accurate (demo includes both 1st & 2nd chapter), then the public demo and GOG's one are not the same.

Ok, got a reply by Jane Jensen herself:
We're trying to figure this out. I figured we'd just give ftp links for PC and Mac to backers, but apparently there's a chance to get Steam codes. GOG may not be possible, from what I hear, but we're looking into it.

It may take us a bit to get this worked out since it's our first time doing it! Be assured that, at the very least, you'll get ftp links before the public.

Jane
It appears that their inexperience in such matters causes some uncertainty and I'd have expected POS to jump in and handle this since they've already been down this road. Anyway, I've asked for further clarification and hopefully it'll only be a matter of time.
I would buy this instantly knowing Jane Jensen is involved and the reviews are on the positive side but I still hesitate about the pre-order thing. I guess I'll buy it after the first reviews are out (or maybe I'll suddenly change my mind on the weekend and but it as a pre-order).

By the way: hoping for Gray Matter to appear here! Please?

Graubert: Protagonist has no beard, I can't buy this.
This.

Actually, it looks pretty good, but I'm not convinced I'd enjoy it enough to buy at full price. I'll probably pick it up as soon as there's a major discount.

Having played some (but not all!) of both games, I'd say very much so. They share the same engine and are very similar, both in tone and in gameplay.

ET3D: Interesting. The comments I read on the Pinkerton Road forum suggested that it's not that great. That the first really positive comment I've read about the game. I guess I'll wait for reviews.
I pledged at a high enough tier to be able to see the backer-exclusive part of the forum and, boy, let me tell you, if you read some of the criticism there you‘d expect they‘d be working on the worst game evarr. I always like it if players take a critical, challenging stance. After all, why encourage developers to put out a subpar product? But some of these guys probably would like nothing better than to tell Jane Jensen what the next Jane Jensen game is supposed to be like. That being said, I only played the first two chapters, it may be possible that it takes a nosedive half way through. Maybe I‘ll check out the rest of the beta over the weekend. But I liked what I‘ve seen so far.

ET3D: As a low level backer I would have a choice between Moebius and GK1 20th Anniversary, and so far I figured that I'd pick GK1.
Personally, I couldn‘t be less excited about GK1. It‘s been done, it was great and - aged graphics aside - it still works remarkably well. I just don‘t see the point of a remake that will have a very hard time living up to its over 20 years old predecessor.

Crosmando: Well, I just sent an email to Phoenix support asking if we can get GOG keys for backers.
Left the same request at the members-only part of the Pinkerton Road forums. Unless I‘m totally mistaken, it was possible even for lower-profile Kickstarter campaigns like „Lilly looking through“ to supply backers with gog-keys.
