RSHabroptilus: I guess--according to some here--the lives of David Foster Wallace, Jack Kerouac, John K. Toole, Richard Brautigan and Ernest Hemingway are deserving of no recognition because they all killed themselves in some way.
Are you seriously comparing Staley to Hemingway? Anyhow: I didn't say they or Staley deserve no recognition. Respect? Nope. Well... it depends. Hemingway suffered real mental problems. he should have been committed. Quite different from Curt. Entirely different from cocaine user.
A lot of people with fatal and absolutely agonizing illnesses decide on suicide, and there sometimes is nothing wrong with that. Take ALS for example, an illness my mother is currently suffering the last stages of, and one that not long ago came into the spotlight because of Kevorkian's assistance in one man's suicide.
Suicide is ALWAYS the wrong option. I feel sorry for you and your mom but i don't believe in euthanasia or assisted suicide. I do believe on fighting till the end no matter what as miracles happen every day
Now. Please don't make me an unfeeling monster who doesn't recognizes others pain.
I do know that there are some people seriously ill who are simply crazy and may commit suicide because of 'depression'.
No. My target was more of the "respect a dude who went crazy because he couldn't deal with silly problems". We had thread about Cobain and people respecting him.
How can you respect person like that? A wimp who couldn't face problems of real life and shot himself. How many people he hurt because of that? How many mothers suffered because their kid tried/succeeded in shooting themselves ala their idol.
I hate those kids who try to kill themselves because their girlfriend/boyfriend left or because their band broke up. There is nothing to respect.
And one should not respect Staley or Cobain or whatever. Their works? Why not? Them as person? Never.
So I hope he, Staley has very troublesome afterlife not peace.
