Seems like a good port so far. The last RF game ran like crap and had all sorts of little issues but I loaded this one up for a few minutes and it ran butter smooth on max settings in DX11 mode.

The game itself is a linear shooter like the first two games. Haven't played it much yet so I will post more thoughts later. Anyone else giving this game a try?

If they released a PC demo I'd be all over it. I loved RF:G but this seems significantly different.
Played the 30 minute trial on Onlive. A couple days ago. Don't think I was supposed to, since they removed the option yesterday, but it's back now. It was pretty awesome. Worth a try, I would say.

So this is an ACTUAL RF title and not just more destroy thing all the time like in RF: Guerilla then?

(Disclaimer: I like RF: Guerilla somewhat, but when it came out we were promised more classic RF gameplay with ADDED aspects of being able to destroy the environments to adjust the gameplay...well, we got the added elements, but it seemed the game was more focused around terrain deformations and little else.)

Yeah, it seems much more like the original game, though with alien enemies as well as humans. It's linear, mostly underground and still focuses on cool weapons. If you like linear shooters I think it's worth trying out. There's a demo on OnLive.
bought this for the PS3 last night. going to have fun.

Yeah remember the first one? I liked at the start trying to blow open new areas to see what stuff the devs may have hidden or to make new ways to get through levels(offtopic but OMG wouldn't Sin have been even better with terrain deformation built in? Don't wanna go through a heavily guarded area? sneak off and blow a hole in a back wall. heh.). I even liked RF 2 a bit too, even though it was short and too cuban dictator plotish.

I'm glad they're getting back to original gameplay though.
Can you now shoot through terrain like the first one, or is terrain still indestructible like RFG?

Indestructible sadly. The underground is filled with buildings, walkways and other such things though so it still allows for tons of fun destruction. Still you are not wrong... Guerrilla and this game both feel like a step back from the original in ways, which is odd.
Talking about original ways...

I finished the original Red Faction yesterday. Turned out to be a much fun FPS, though I barelly payed attention to the destructible enviroments. Since they're not always destructible, I ended up only trying to do it when it was blatantly obvious that I needed it to proceed.

The gameplay and campaign structure reminded me of Half Life and a few modern FPSs, being an almost continuous travel from point Start to point Ending. Also, all those vehicular levels, even though the levels themselves were kinda bland, the driving, diving, flying was entertaining.

Too bad I ended up using some of the better endgame guns too little, like the railgun and the massive rocket launcher.

That is correct. Geomod had a lot of untapped potential. One of the criticisms leveled at the game was that it's actually simpler to shoot an enemy, than try to use the environment against them e.g. would you rather use 2 rockets on them, or 3 on the tower that they're in and still not kill them.

I'd like to see a fusion of Geomod 1 and 2. That will crank the Fun to 11.

Same thing could be said of Guerrilla really. All the building collapsing and such was cool but for most actual missions the easiest path to victory was to shoot enemy soldiers in the head with an assault rifle. None of the games were really good at forcing you to use the technology to succeed outside of scripted events, in my experience.
I rember in RF:G having to take down a building frame to kill the snipers in it and failing and failing before just using a rifle myself.

I just played an hour or so of this and it seems to focus on the same kind of thing. Lots of dudes in buildings and I just took out the whole wall or floor. Pretty cool. I don't remember doing much of that in Guerrilla, the enemies just ran around outside and I shot them all. That could be on me though, I dunno.

Except for 1 or 2 occasions you are right. I can't even remember any use for demo'ing buildings other than the currency and boredom.
