Sometimes, true love just falls from the sky!

Deponia, a gorgeous adventure game that feels like a cartoon based on works of Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams, is now available on GOG.com for only $14.99 until Thursday, September 13 at 10:59 AM GMT.

Rufus would have been a nice guy, really. That is, if he wasn't such a self-important, all-knowing jerk. But hey! Living your whole life in the middle of a junkyard can do that to you. Why does he live in a junkyard, you might ask. Well, it's not like he had much choice. The whole surface of the planet Deponia is covered with a thick layer of trash. That's why our ambitious protagonist always dreamed of getting into one of the upper spheres, where the privileged part of Deponia's population leads a life full of luxurious bliss, probably even unaware of the garbage piles below. But everything is about to change, as a girl named Goal suddenly falls from the cities above with a warning of impending doom.

Deponia is a top-notch point-and-click adventure game from the makers of The Whispered World. It combines the classic adventure game controls with beautiful cartoony graphics and heaps of brilliant humor. The garbage-filled planet Deponia, with all of its gadgets and gizmos, is one of the most captivating, original settings ever to be featured in a video game. With hundreds of challenging puzzles, tons of witty and skillfully enacted dialogs, and amazing cinematic cut-scenes, Deponia is a game that every adventure fan should experience.

Join Rufus and Goal on their voyage through the mystifyingly beautiful garbage-filled landscapes of Deponia, for only $14.99 in the release week!

BadDecissions: I always feel kind of bad for writers and other artists, when the great praise people give them is "kind of like another, more famous artist!" You see that a lot on mystery books: "Sort of like Christie!"
You know, first: These comparisons to more famous works and artists are usually used so the average guy gets an idea what he's dealing with. "It's like something you've never heard about" or "it's <insert academic expression nobody knows here>" won't help anybody or at least very few people. And then I've gotta say, even talking purely about critique - I think very few artists feel insulted when their works are compared to the greatest, especially since particularly upcoming artists use established standards and styles for orientation. I know that when people said about my music "sounds like Clint Mansell" or "Hans Zimmer" I was more flattered than when I hear something like "sounds great". As a matter of fact in my experience those artists who feel insulted when they get a comparison to some famous person's work are assholes. It only sucks when your work gets compared to something that you really weren't aiming for or even hate. <.<

The art style actually reminds me of Monkey Island 3, if you get the correlation.

I do. Actually I was wondering what character Deponia's protagonist reminds me of and it's indeed the Monkey Island 3 version of Guybrush Threepwood.
Thank you, another game for me :)

Mytan: Hmm did I praise GOG too early now...

How do you actually install the non-english versions of Deponia ? There is only one installer and it'll install the english version of the game. I can't seem to find an option within the game to swith languages either.

Is it just me ? Am I missing something here ?
Have you downloaded Language Pack: German from game details?

Leroux: i just wonder, can you also alter the resolution in fullscreen mode? It seems you can only do that when you play the game windowed?
Downloading... You'll get your reply in a (longer) moment :).

Minus the small feet fad that swept over the Caribbean at the time.

Hi GOG-Community,

we are happy to present you today our latest game Deponia. Hopefully you will have as much fun playing it as we had to develop the game. Look out for a trailer tomorrow which explains, what i mean.

Like with every indie production it was a long way to produce this game. We came up with the idea for Deponia in summer 2008 after our first success Edna & Harvey: The Breakout (now available on the iPad). And potential business partners we talked to, said that they don't think, this will work. We had in mind to produce an adventure game maybe 20 hours long. But then we found nobody who would invest in such a game. In 2011 then after some years of pre-production and negotiations, we decided to put in all additional ideas which came along the years into the final game. And we decided to go ALL IN. So finally we had a game design document for 35-40h gameplay time. We decided to make a Deponia trilogy, so that it is possible to make three games which are around each 10-12 hours and also to have some revenues on the way.

Deponia came out first in germany in january 2012 (the toughest and most competitive market for adventure games, remember what Tim Schafer said in his kickstarter video). And: We ended up on No. 1 in the german charts in front of The Old Republic for almost two weeks ;-) Also the reviews were fantastic. Check for example the german database site pcgamesdatabase.de. There you can see that not a single NEW adventure game in this century has a better metascore in germany (excluding the remakes of some good known games from LA). But we are freaks. Every next game we develop - our goal is to make it even more a little bit better than the last one.

Someone here wrote maybe the localization for one of our games we did in the past, The Whispered World, was not the best. He is right, but we think it was ok, not stellar. We learned much in the years and from loca to loca the quality of our international versions rise. We recorded Deponia in London with really good and experienced people.

Enjoy Deponia, be aware that later this year in november there will be the second part Chaos on Deponia also on GOG. If you like our game, tell it to your friends, so that one day we can do a movie or tv series about Deponia... If not, don't tell anyone ;-)

Best regards, take care

I swear last night I was thinking GOG should release Deponia and The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav.

I failed to do it. Switching from Windowed mode -> Resolution Change -> Fullscreen -> Restart didn't do the magic too.

Daedalic_Carsten: Hi GOG-Community, ...
Hi! Welcome to GOG :). I'm glad you joined forces with this website and wish you luck. Now if you excuse me, some adventure is begging me to be played :P.
Nice, this game looks and sounds like it's right up my alley. Can't really spare the $15 right now though, so wishlisted for the time being.

AndyBuzz: It's an artistic style that has nothing to do with age. Whether you like it or not is another matter and no one will argue if you dismiss it on grounds of preference. But saying that is aimed at children is at least naive.
Oh, I must be at least naive, all right.
Great release, glad I waited before making the purchase :).

It looks and plays quite nicely and I look forward to playing it.

One thing I noticed right away that is sadly all too common is that the fullscreen mode does letterboxed 16:9 aspect ratio despite my monitor being 16:10. Typical :P
