GameRager: Well you still need a good PC, dual core or better at least IMO. Otherwise it won't run fast enough......
avatar
orcishgamer: Fair enough but if you've built any PC resembling a gaming PC in the last 5 years you have a dual core proc in it.
My PC couldn't run PS2 games at more than 15 fps. Even sprite-based ones. But it did pretty well, considering I can't even get a friggin' Saturn emulator to run. :P

PhoenixWright: Is PS2 emulation actually "there" yet?

EDIT: On the PC, that is.

GameRager: Yep. The emulators are a bit wonky at times, but most ps2 games can be handled.....given enough processor/etc power that is.
You sure? The PCSX2 compatibility guide does not inspire confidence.

My limited experience with 4 PS2 games 9 months ago:
FFX: worked great
FFX-2: playable but FMV doesn't work with D3D renderer (have to switch to software. PITA)
DOA2: doesn't even make it to start screen
Dirge of Cerberus: I get like 2 FPS

Maybe your specs are too low?
Why not just buy a PS2 slim for under $100 new. Even less if used and those slim's take up next to no space.

$299 120GB slim PS3 + $100 slim PS2 is a pretty sweet deal.

Or just play on your PC, with save states to save anywhere etc.

Playability > save states and hassle.

For Dirge of Cerberus possibly, but I'd have expected a consistent 5 FPS at the very least. Seemed more like an inefficiency in the emulation. A game that could only run smoothly on imaginary future hardware. Perhaps the emulator has improved or I missed a configuration option that makes it playable?

I played through FFX-2 just fine. The emulation bug for the FMV was quite annoying however. Kind of distressing as the Square RPGs seemed to get a lot of focus.

What games do you like to play on PCSX2?

We already have PS2s silly! You need one to dump the PS2 BIOS. ;)

Emulation is especially nice for the PS2 because jaggies are really pronounced on modern displays. We no longer have to see them.
