The Wolf Among Us !!!

Other good 2014 games I played (in order of preference):
- Blackwell Epiphany
- The Walking Dead Season 2
- Murdered Soul Suspect

I have yet to play Divinity Original Sin and Wasteland 2 but from what I heard they're quite good too.
Of those that I have played it's either Wasteland 2 or Door Kickers.
So far I liked Castlevania LoS 2, D:OS and Wasteland 2 alot, but they will probably be superseded by Dragon Age Inq before the year runs out, its very good so far (PS3 version).
I've only played a few indie games released this year but I'll definitely go with Banished. Blackwell: Epiphany on second place.
I am usually at least a year behind current gaming, since I am a miser and buy games when they are ultimate GOTY editions at bargain-bin prices. So I would have to go with something that I actually played this year and enjoyed.

It would be easier to say what is not my personal GOTY. Skyrim is too dull and technically flawed to be enjoyable. Human Revolution is a fine game, but didn't excite me. Journey to the West is just flat broken, refusing to start.

So...hm. Well, I have until the New Year to figure out what I actually liked. Here's hoping that Freedom Planet and a fresh Ace Attorney game would fulfill my expectations.
Dark Souls 2. It's not as good as Dark Souls but it's a hell of a lot better than most games.

I played through Dreamfall Chapters part 1 last weekend and absolutely loved that. It would be up there but it's really only 1/5 of a game.

Also great:
- Door Kickers
- Insurgency
- Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Yet to play that I care about:
- Wasteland 2
- Divinity: Original Sin (actually I just started it last night but an hour in I can't say much about it, other than I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy the camera. Isometric games just seem to play much better with a fixed camera in my experience.)
- Alien: Isolation
Probably Transistor. Original Sin and a few other games were really, really good, but Transistor stuck with me unlike anything else. Great music, a vague story that makes you think and fill in the holes, and unique combat unlike anything else.
I really liked Mount and Blade. I can't believe I hadn't even seen a video about this game!
Thankfully Gog gave it to me for free and I'm enjoying it very much (so far, let's see if the last 20 days of 2014 bring something more awesome).

canyonaz: If newly localized games count, I'll go with The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.
Alas, Trails in the Sky is neither newly localised (it was already localised for the PSP prior to this) nor technically newly ported (the original PC version came out in 2004). But to be fair to XSEED, they did put a lot of work into updating the PC port for the 2014 worldwide release.
To me it is The Forest and/or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
I am having a déjà vu ;-)

Forza Horizon 2

I'm not a racer but this game is seriously addictive.
None unfortunately but I've a hunch Legend of Grimrock 2 will be it.
This has been a most prosperous year for independent projects and RPGs. We've seen a lot of ambitious stuff come to the end of the Kickstarter development cycle including Wasteland 2, Divinity: Original Sin, and The Banner Saga. The Legend of Grimrock 2, Age of Wonders III, and Xenonauts have proved there is an audience out there for genres the big studios overlook (because bugger anything that doesn't earn Call of Duty figures). Shadowrun: Dragonfall is fantastic, perhaps the best RPG in recent memory.

My pick is One Finger Death Punch.

What?

Did you know that Minesweeper and Solitaire are in every Windows operating system going back to the early 90s? That’s where One Finger Death Punch belongs, alongside those games, probably played till the end of time itself. I can no longer imagine a computer without it. Perhaps it’s always been there.
I was going to say Candy Crush Saga because I thought it is the only 2014 game I've played... but Wikipedia says it is actually a 2012 game.

It makes me feel old when some whippersnapper on Youtube commented on Crysis 2 something along the lines:

"The game is still surprisingly good despite being so old."

God damn it, to me Crysis 2 is still a recent game!
