timppu: I was going to say Candy Crush Saga because I thought it is the only 2014 game I've played... but Wikipedia says it is actually a 2012 game.

It makes me feel old when some whippersnapper on Youtube commented on Crysis 2 something along the lines:

"The game is still surprisingly good despite being so old."

God damn it, to me Crysis 2 is still a recent game!
Someone I know called Skyrim an old game a year after release. :l
The Blackwell Epiphany.
A great closure to a great series of adventure games, I loved it.
My game of the year is Tower of Guns

markrichardb: My pick is One Finger Death Punch.
and it is a very, very good game. Deserves a lot more credit than it got so far. It is a game genre and mechanics distilled into its purest form.

Total Biscuit did a WTF of it, and explains both the game and what is good with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN6rYygppY0

My game is Risen 3: Titan Lords. I posted about it here as well. Risen 3 was hard for me to start seriously playing it because of all the flaws I saw. But strangely, in the very end I was happy. No game has given me such a mix of emotions yet.

For those that i have played:

- Divinity: Original Sin
- Wasteland 2
- Heartstone: Heroes of Warcraft
Witcher 3. I preordered it in 2014, so i think it counts...

You didn't play it in 2014 so no not really. Most anticipated maybe?

I'll second that.

My release of the year is the Mount and Blade series on gOg. And yes, that's over the LucasArts titles.
Definitely Larian's "Divinity: Original Sin". I had years to enjoy so much a cRPG!

Tower of Guns was such a disappointment for me. :(
I don't exactly remember but I think it was a combination of the camera being a bit weird and just having one boring gun.
outside of the bugs, Gabriel knight 20th anniversary remake is my game of the year. maybe because it was one of the few games I've bought that released in 2014. it's way more casual but delivered the same story with nice visuals and better sounds. I know people are out there who will disagree and that's okay. opinions right?

my fave gog release of the year despite its age is xwing/tiefighter. they were the games I wanted to see most on here since I first joined roughly 3 years ago. I haven't played them in over ten years and I periodically lose myself in them lately. so much fun. hard as nails for me but fun.

It's a game of unlocks so you eventually get access to around 10 guns and 12-15 perks. Actually, there are around 5 additional guns that you can acquire as you play but that are not available at the start of a session. Basically, you find some special guns in random places. A couple of them have really cool effects that can really change your approach to the game once you get your hands on it.

But you can't please all the people all the time, and that's why we have these threads - so people can express what did the trick for them. : )

Indeed, I never played enough to unlock interesting guns. XD
Either Wasteland 2, Xenonauts or Wolfenstein NWO depending on what mood I'm in. Although I haven't played many possible contenders yet, including Divinity OS and Alien. All in all, it's been a good year for games!
