Well, I know I won't be utilizing those social networking features. I like to keep games and my personal life separate, and there's really no reason for them to intertwine in the future.

Yep, I hate this social integration inside the games. I just want to play my games and that's it, dammit.
But really, twitter can be useful IMO and can be used professionally, while facebook is all about useless crap and mini-games.

To try and get this back on track;
I've now got a beta key. Should I use it? How much of a spoiler would it be for the "real" game? And if I want to play online anyway (which I do), should I just go ahead and enter the beta to get some heads-up practice?

There's no spoiler for the real game as you don't have access to single player, just multiplayer. I say go ahead and get a head start on the game as it's fun to play.

Use it. It will help you a lot. Better to learn it now than to learn it later. The database will be reset when the game is released, but your knowledge will not. :)
