Hesusio: Indeed it was Obsidian. It's 8am and I've been up all night so I'm not exactly on top of my game right now. Still, I'm sure we can all agree that whoever is responsible for not even trying to put out an expansion pack is a royal bellend.
I think it's pretty much a well known fact that Lucasarts are known for making some spectacularly bad decisions. Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi anyone?

The Clone Wars, releasing Star Wars in 3D starting with The Phantom Menace.

And yet they keep laughing all the way to the bank. Goddamn fanboys.

Only hipsters like older things and dislike newer things. You're wrong, the prequels are better.

Ahahahahaha.... wait, you aren't serious are you?
What I really want is a trilogy prequel to the prequel to the trilogy...
Uh, now? Compared to when exactly? Yes there have been a few games lately that have planned sequels even before the first is released. But when you look at Arachronox or Advent Rising you realise that even this overconfidence in new IPs isn't anything new.

Dammit, now I have to have a good cry over how Superman: TAS and Sonic Sat AM ended.

Now that would be dandy. Then the whole thing would be a trilogy of trilogies.
Baldur's Gate is a good Trilogy. <_<

Dunno about the rest.

Thief had a good trilogy to it too.
Baldurs Gate is a Trilogy? Really? Did I miss one or do addons count towards the trilogy counter? *feelsconfused*

Baldur's Gate two is two different games.

Shadows of Amn

And Throne of B'haal.

The games are based off the Forgotten Realms books by the same name. And there are two different book twos. :)
It's probably the increased focus on story-telling in recent years. At least partially.

People like telling stories in threes, three stories, three parts, three obstacles, etc. Check out Joseph Campbell's classic book. You know the one. ;)
To be honest, sounds a bit like "it needs to fit our description" things. How many books it was based on, is kinda not the point if it's officially sold and marketed as an addon and not as an own title :).

I believe you could play either one without the other :P
Afraid it wasn't a standalone addon, you needed BG2 to play it. But well how about we compromise and take Baldurs Gate Alliance instead? ;) 2 Games produced and third planned, but never released due to financial problems.
