goodgame01: Im hoping i can install the game on my laptop, patch using the launcher and then copy the files over to my game pc. (fingers crossed)

GameRager: If the game or patches make registry entries, you'd have to copy those too.
dam i didnt think about that. beginning to feel like this is all too hard.

GameRager: all you'd need to know is what registry entries the game makes and just copy them into the new pc's registry.

Hint: after game install/update/patching/etc...look on the laptop registry for entries marked cdpr/witcher/etc.
will give it a try.. bring on patch day !

If that doesn't work, maybe you can take the "run around the block naked and hope no one notices" approach with your computer and plug it online for the time it takes to patch / get dlc.

I'd have to buy a wireless lan kit for my gaming computer first, but it would be very risky. I connected my laptop to the apartment wireless network last night and my software firewall logged over 60 connection attempts over several hours from a number of different ip addresses. Its just a ridiculous situation - if only the rent at this place wasnt so good

By the way, what’s up with the aggressive marketing at the front page? Are the sales not looking as well as expected? Normally you’d market something a lot in the beginning and less and less as time progresses - not the other way around o_ô

Or the patch might make hardware specific changes or changes specific to your current OS patch level. This is not probable but you never know. It would be far easier if GOG/CDP would just publish the standalone patches.

However if somebody wants to re-invent the long lost art of making standalone patches, check if there are automatic tools for that. There should be automatic freeware programms out there that create and apply directory and registry diffs automatically.

Being on Linux here provides the means to (pretty easily) create a standalone patch.

Wine + UnionFS would give you only the files that were changed.
Registry in Wine is a flat text file, making a comparison between the pre/post patch very easy to do.

Which, obviously, completely undermines CDPs attempts to stop pirates getting the patches. If the community can make a standalone patch and release it, the pirates can get it too.

Are you stupid? Filesharer will ALWAYS get patches — no matter what. Jeez, when will you people learn?

Yes I know but I don't care much. They are supossed to go for DRM free and well, tell this to the guy who bought the game in good/stupid faith and suddenly realizes that his game computer doesn't have any internet connection.... which should happen only quite rarely nowadays.

Okay, those guys can just wait until CDP will do the patching of the installable for them at some point in the future.

Is not only about NOT having an Internet connection but also about having a shitty one.
I wasn’t talking about me, smartass.
Just to be sure, GameRager: Are you mentally handicapped (i.e. retarded)? It appears so. If you are then I will take that into account and have regards for you in future conversations.
You were fucking with me and in return I fucked with you. What exactly did you expect? Me just letting that inane comment go about its merry way?
Argh, fuck the English language. This is why one should use “one” instead of “you” :P But yeah, my bad then. Sorry, GameRager.
Glad to hear that. No hard feelings then?

I do realize that I am far from being balanced but I try my best — I think. And as I said, I am neither really pessimistic nor extraordinarily realistic. I do have that kind of personality inside of me but it’s less dominant most of the time. I’m actually quite optimistic and relaxed. Mostly because of my theistic beliefs, I suppose. And after all: Life is beautiful :)
