I'm not against DLC in general, I'm just against this particular form of DLC. Charging $2 for a couple of sprites.
Killing Floor is actually slightly different since they are an independent developer who have very good support for their game, and they've released a lot of stuff for free also. In those cases you can live with a few $2 DLCs, even if they're pointless, just to show support.
Even so, MW2 is still worst, honestly. In that case they're charging for maps that you essentially need in order to play the multiplayer properly, and the need will only increase as more and more players move on to the next maps. And then to the next set of maps, and so on. And then MW3 is out and MW2 support is killed, leaving you with 5 different map packs you'll never get to see again. They will however be shuffled and recycled into the MW3 map packs.
I just worked myself into a pissed-off mood writing that. :(
Railworks has 40 DLC packs thus far, totalling to nearly $600 USD. The base game is $50.

Ok, now that's ridiculous.

I'd like to know how many people have bought everything.
At least we get some good stories to tell our kids.
"Aiiii remember back in the ol days, we dinna have to pay a single cent for patches that came with free maps and cool stuff."

In MW5, the game will ship with multiplayer, but no maps - these are separate DLC that you will need to pay $30 for.

Publishers are too ignorant to realise but it's these patches that added value to games. Gamers don't forget that certain developers release extra maps with patches for free. The same goes for editors - it tells the gamer "this game may have cool mods in the future!". But no, they removed all that since an editor would defeat DLC. Except DLC is generic and many mods are quite original so DLC can't even compete with mods. So in the end, you pay a lot more for a lot less and then they wonder why sales go down. Must be the pirates eh? Damn retards ...

Interestingly, Morrowind and Oblivion's friendliness with mods and editors didn't stop Bethesda to release Horse Armor DLC (did they release them on PC too?) and several critically-acclaimed expansion packs.

Well the Horse Armor sold pretty badly from what I heard? Fallout 3 DLC was far superior since it didn't just add boring extra items but a lot of new things.
I don't see anything wrong to support developers whose making awesome games. Just Cause 2 is really awesome and fun game, for me it gives me so much fun than GTA 4. And also you don't need to buy these DLC's there a lot of guns and vehicles in the game too. And finally they are really cheap, $0.99 and $1.99. Free updates are better than this but as I said I support devs who made great games and making cheap DLC's like this. Please don't comment if you don't play the game or demo. Look at BioShock 2 for example, no one is playing it's mp and they are charging for map pack $9.99, I don't buy this. Of course I won't buy MW2 DLC's or Aliens vs Predator DLC too. I love Eidos Interactive (aka Square Enix) and it's games BTW.

You can always wait until the JUST CAUSE 2: GAME OF THE YEAR edition for £34.99.

Yeaaaah ... except you're not supporting the developers, are you? Indirectly you are the developer isn't getting a penny from DLC except that they may get to make another game. Sadly enough, if you want to support a developer, you'll need to look for independent developers. The way publishers work these days, "developers" are just sub-companies of the publisher with employees just like any other company. They don't make any less or more - there's just a better chance they'll keep their job if the game sells well.
I bought Killing Floor DLC's too. Also I love Eidos Interactive, devs or publishers or Steam, I love Valve too. I dont have a problem for paying $2.00 for any of them. :)
Ah yes, "Good value DLC". We have dismissed this claim...

I actually own Rail Simulator, which is what it was called before they went with Steam (I wasn't happy about them doing that, but that's a different story altogether). This is as much or more of a niche title as IL-2 Sturmovik, and these content packs are (trust me) way more complicated than 3 gun models. And while there is a content editor/modeling tools included, it's not very user-friendly. Now I'm not paying for these content packs (I'm playing other things at the moment), but I understand why the prices are what they are.

If anything is the travesty here, it is this.
Are you okay with a mom-and-pop store "scamming" you? But never a big chain.
Seriously. The devs gave a crapton of content in the game itself (I think 140-something vehicles?). And they already released a free DLC (the ice cream truck).
And you don't actually NEED these $2 DLCs. it is a singleplayer game, and these are solely to have even more fun and do even more stupid stuff. If the guns don't appeal to you, don't get them.
I love JC2, but I am probably skipping this DLC. I grabbed the other one because the plane looked fun (and it was). I don't really feel excited about any of these guns, so I will probably wait for a sale or pack. And when the one with the Tuk-Tuk Boom comes out for PC, I will buy it in a heartbeat.
