Elenarie: Easy? Play Hardcore on Torment difficulties. No randomness in zones? Don't play the story mode, play Adventure mode with rifts and greater rifts.
Or you can just play a different game which satisfies all your aRPG needs 100% fine. I have issues with basics of how Diablo 3 works - I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm saying it's not what I'm looking for in an aRPG, and that doesn't exclusively apply to me.
crewdroog's post is pretty much identical to my opinion, so I'll keep it brief.

D3 is not very fun on your own, but it's very fun with friends. And you have a friend. So keep enjoying D3 until you tired of it. Then pick something else up.

I only played Torchlight a little. But it just never caught me. It felt like a mix of Fate and Diablo that just didn't resonate with me at all.

PoE is good. You do need money to increase your storage capacity if that matters to you.

If you can tolerate old graphics and bad resolution, Darkstone is probably my favorite Diablo-clone. And it is also a title that is far more fun with a friend.

Oh yeah, you're right, there are two things of importance that you can purchase i PoE - character slots, which you get like 10 or so by default (or was it 7? Not particularily limiting regardless, as there's 6 classes) and 5 pages of stash, which is far more pernament storage than you get in vast majority of aRPGs that I have ever played. I am yet to run out of space, after 3 full playtroughs

Crewdroog: . . . RoS also leads to a new, and I think interesting, story line. I am actually excited about the next expansion.

SpellSword: There is an upcoming expansion for Diablo 3 after Reaper of Souls?
I am assuming. The end of RoS you are left with a cliff hanger if you read all the books. I am hoping this is an expansion and not the basis for Diablo 4.

I wish Darkstone was a little more open with it's format; Then we'd be able to update the character models and textures and world; It doesn't need a huge update to make it easier on the eyes, but seeing books in town (on a table) as nothing more than a texture to give you a 3d Illusion at certain angles just killed it for me. At least on the PS1 the resolution was so low and limited it didn't really matter.

I might pick up playing it again at some point...

Oh yes... Din's Curse... another good one to try, i enjoyed it for what little i played of it.

Yes, I agree with what you said earlier. They drastically changed the mechanics from D2 to D3 : no commitment on leveling up, no skill tree and full access to every skill. All this doesn't make D3 a bad game, but the most remote aRPG from a D2 PoV for sure. And the last console/PC comparison I saw of D3 really baffled me (I didn't enjoy D3, but the console version is yet another completely different game).

No commitment on leveling and having full access sounds a lot more like... how Ring Runner does ship building; where there are no defective pieces you stop using, every part has it's own advantages and disadvantages. One of the big problems with D2 was the lower skills you put the minimum you had to put into them and moved on when higher skills were available. Yeah you could probably level up and get 20 skill points in skeletons, but they were too weak, it didn't scale well with the rest of the game. Same with the firebolt for the sorceress, and probably plenty of other examples; The Zy-El mod did a good job of fixing that though.

As for the console being different than the online, game that actually sounds like a good idea, mostly because it's different content that is an option only on console/offline for big D3 fans, and if someone wanted to play online they could then access the online experience as Blizzard has it.

Of course at the same time it's a terrible idea as it's not the same experience...

I just don't know when it comes to Blizzard anymore.

Elmofongo: I will NOT complain about something else about Diablo 3 and its not the Auction House or the Always Online DRM or even the perceived "Dumbed" Down RPG elements even though the last Diablo games were simple to pick up and play.

No one thing I will complain about is this guy:

Seriously Blizzard did you mixed up your Warcraft artist? Did you fire the guys that did the art design of the first 2 Diablos?

That Azmodan guy looks like some random demon from the Warcraft universe, not the Diablo universe hell he reminds me of the Pit Lord:

That I can agree with.

There's supposedly one more expansion for Diablo 3. It's trilogy.

Like they are doing with Starcraft 2... And naturally it probably has a $50 price tag on it...
full price D3 (yes unfortunately impulse purchase!!) v TL2 == TL2 win

Luisfius: The first part does not apply to Path of Exile, which is great from the get go. It is a true sequel to Diablo 2, more or less. It is pretty much Diablo, but with skill system/advancements extracted from Final Fantasy 7 and 10 respectively. It is fantastic. But it is also online-only.
Online only is the only sucky part for me. Otherwise POE is fantastic

xpac won't have 50 USD if it's not WoW. Most likely 40 USD at most, like Reaper of Souls.

I finished Darkstone a little while ago, just posted a review in the Games Finished section if anyone is wondering about that game:

Honestly I hope that the second D3 expansion lets me fight Imperius.

Particularly since in the Mexican dub, the dude that voices him also gives Homer Simpson his voice. Has since the first season.
So beating up Homer would be hilarious
