UPDATE: 5:30 p.m. GMT
CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference has just finished and everything is clear now. If you haven't been able to tune in to watch the live stream, don't worry. We've prepared a quick summary of our presentation with a video recap for your convenience. So, let's not wait any longer.

At the very beginning we had to brag a bit about how awesome the service is doing, of course thanks to you - our great users. And then, suddenly, the lights went off, creepy moans started letting out from all over the place while The EnigmaticT tried to discern something in the dark with his flashlight.

Worry not, it was the announcement of Alone in the Dark, that comes with Alone in the Dark 2 and Alone in the Dark 3 as free bonus materials! This great series starts a new wave of Atari games that will be available in the coming weeks! And on 10th of May as the last game from Atari, we'll release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. What's even cooler we're going to have a special, time-limited offer that will give you a 50% discount, so the game will cost you only $4.99!

As we're on the subject of The Witcher, we had more cool stuff about its upcoming sequel on GOG.com. Starting on May 10, everyone who pre-order The Witcher 2 on GOG.com will be able to pre-purchase the game and download 90% of the build, so they can play the game on release day! So if you haven't pre-ordered the game yet, you'd better do that before May 16! More details on The Witcher deals can be found here.

Pre-downloading such huge game like The Witcher 2 is some serious business, and you'd need some serious downloader to do that. That's where the GOG.com Spring Site Update comes in! Late April we'll introduce a brand new, improved and slick GOG Downloader which will allow you to download all your GOG games fast and easy. What else? Personal messaging will be now possible for all our users!

But that's not all! At the very end, spotlight was on your favourite French Monk, who had some news regarding new publishers coming to the site. Microsoft, Electronic Arts, LucasArts, Take2 and SquareEnix - one of those publishers is already signed, while two more from the list are almost on board! Which and when is coming? Well, you'll have to wait a bit for that :)

You can watch the video recap of the presentation here. Enjoy!

Wealin: You know what would be nice for a spring update?

That people could get banned from trolling in the forums(for a while or forever) but they can still buy games, even if it takes us to accept a new TOS or whatever that is called.

Also congrats on the Witcher 1 and Alone in The Dark offer!
We don´t have a huge problem with trolling over here.
Great news are coming!

I'm hoping that the publishers which signed the agreement with gog.com are: Microsoft Games, Lucas Arts and Square Enix :)

The biggest surprise for me is, however, the new gog.com downloader with an ability to easily check for download erros , which was really pain in the ass, when you downloaded 2 GBs of data and then you realized that you have to do that all over again because of the CRC error

Also, the Witcher 1 coming up for 4,99$ is an instant buy.

Great job, people!

bazilisek: Actually, you've got that entirely wrong. This is precisely why English is relatively easy to learn, at least for everyday use (it takes a lot more effort before you can start reading and enjoying Joyce). All major European language groups will find something they can easily relate to in English, which makes picking it up a lot easier. We Slavic people least of all, but it still isn't hard. English spelling is tricky, but grammar isn't half bad.

Go ahead and try learning Czech or Hungarian. You'll change your mind pretty soon.
I did mean the written language :). There's a huge amount of fragmentation and rules that apply sometimes but not other times because they've deranged from 2 or more languages. A lot of it was down to the Normans as FlintlockJazz mentioned.

Also +1 to FlintlockJazz's pointing out of the Americans screwing over the rest of the Europe in WW2 (though it was the Brits that screwed over France a bit. It's worth pointing out though that the real unsung heroes of WW2 are actually the Polish who put up one hell of a fight all things considered.

bazilisek: I'm told Czech is somewhat harder than Polish, though, but I can't really judge that for myself, for obvious reasons. I've heard many foreign students of Czech exclaiming in despair that each grammatical rule in the language has more exceptions than cases where it actually works, which isn't as much of an exaggeration as it seems; I believe that is not as much the case with Polish. I could be wrong, though.
I think the main problem is seven cases, which alter endings of nouns and adjectives.
The same word would be slightly different.

Child see the parent. would be Dziecko widzi ojca.

Child is going with parent. would be Dziecko idzie z ojcem

Could you give me an example or two of these rules, just to make sure we're on the same page here?

Sorry for derailing the thread further. Linguistics is my thing. Can't help it.

In front of Nazis and behind Soviets.Nice combination.

Again, from what foreign students tell me: cases are infuriating, but manageable, if you try hard. But you are correct morphology is the main culprit here, but I'd say it's verbs where it hurts the most, particularly if you add the Slavic oddity known as verb aspect, which confuses the hell out of foreigners.

For non-Slavs: no one is quite sure how many forms a single Czech verb can have, because there are tons of cases where it's hard to determine if it's still a verb or something else entirely, but it most certainly is over a hundred. Some of these are formally identical to make things worse. The system of tenses is fairly primitive (just past, present, future), but everything else is extremely complex. Whereas English has a lot of tenses, but the actual morphology of most English verbs is about as primitive as it can get.

Just so we are crystal clear; I do not want to use any download clients.

I'm fine with you making a client as bling as it pleases you to do so, but do NOT force me to use it.

I don't want anyone's e-tail crap-ware (i say this in the nicest possible way), so make sure I can still do a plain old http download.

v1989: If you read the earlier posts, you would know that downloader is NOT obligatory.
i am reading this from the news page, so i can only see the latest comments, but thank you.

No problem. We are all morons, but we just don't know in which subjects.:D

matvader3: But do keep in mind, if it were not for hundreds of thousands of "filthy upstart Colonist yanks", you EU chaps would still be goose stepping in front of the swastika. On behalf of my Grandparents generation, "your welcome". That said, I am pumped about the upcoming wave of games!!

Peace!
avatar
FlintlockJazz: And on behalf of my grandparents let me say "Fuck you for profiteering from World War 2, fuck you for deliberately taking apart the British Empire so that you could take the assets for yourselves after WW2, fuck you for attempting to rewrite history to make out you were the heroes who did everything, fuck you for giving us a bill despite claiming to be our allies and our aide in your fight against Japan, fuck you for your consistent screwing over of your allies. Just fuck you."

Bashing America is not on, but don't be insulting our grandparents' actions nor make such insulting claims or deride other countries in doing so. It makes you just as bad, and results in someone like me having to vent all over your face.

Now, back to our previously scheduled programming.
Well, having AITD here, is just ... awesome!

As for the WWII related comments... Isn't it just amazing what kind of psychological footprint still exists as a consequence of a regime that lasted for some 12 years and ceased to exist some 66 years ago?
Is it fear, fascination - both? I think it's a little bit of both. As a German however, I have to admit that I have a surprisingly detached viewpoint of the whole thing. Maybe it's because I haven't been involved, nor did my parents, neither my grandparents for that matter. That should be true for almost all of you here, too.
From that perspective, I am always astonished to read how much credit is given to- or fight for credit is going on, for having defeated the Axis, concentrated mainly between the US, UK and France once in a while (thanks Infogrames for AITD and pioneering survival horror, by the way).
But wouldn't y'all Yanks and Chaps agree with me (Kraut, if you wish) - that the main force behind the defeat of the Axis has been actually Russia? I may be wrong but statistics could even indicate that they paid also the highest price in terms of casualties in that relation.

дружба товарищи!

I do agree that the US achieved best to capitalize on the victory and unaffected industrial infrastructure and production capacity after WWII. But most of the ROW kind of benefited from that a great deal too, right?
This effect of US hegemony is currently fading, as it did with the British empire once (and others before that). So, let's hope that the new shifts of power centers will be peaceful, driven by science, technology and innovations, this time - an economic and scientific race as opposed to "brute force warfare". For latter, I prefer to play a round of Civilization III, IV and maybe some of Civ V, bringing us back to what really matters - games.
Wh... Wha...? Anyone mentioned France and WW2 in one sentence but without word "defeat" or "cowards" ?
Well, LA has a pretty extensive catalog outside of the SW series (although I hope we get LA for the SW flight sims. I need XW, TF, XvT/BoP, and XWA working properly on Win7 :P ).
