Yes, Ubisoft is dropping PC DRM but you must go online and log in to Ubisoft's servers to play the game, see the main menu, save and load the game. Their games will be like MMO games, you need to log in to play. It is so bad decision because there are huge of gamers who don't want to get online to play their games or don't have internet connection.

Har Har Har. No DRM my ass.
Oh, thought they were talking about Uplay or something.
Then again Steam is sort of like this. Not saying it's good or bad, I'm just making a point.
Well, I guess I won't buy any new Ubisoft titles from now on. It saves money and pushes me back to piracy. Well done Ubi!
This is completely retarded ... Have they really thought this through? People are going to be INCREDIBLY annoyed when making a savegame takes a minute (and some complex games have save games of 50+MB big!), when the game fails to connect to the server and instead of saving, throws you out (just ask early Dragon Age Origins gamers how fun it was logging onto EA in-game) or how about when in 5 years time, you'll discover the servers are gone and your game has become unplayable.
Well, no more Ubisoft games for me. Let's see them blame their crap sales on piracy NOW.
Lol, well now I just want to pirate their games to show them a lesson. Sadly I didn't like any of their late games, after Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Ghost Recon 2 and GR2: Summit Strike they lost their touch. Those were the best games, before and after that nothing good to me.
So all Ubisoft have really done is attempt to change the definition of DRM by trying to claim that the need to do everything through their servers is not DRM.
Only a suit could have thought up something so ridiculous and expect people to not notice.
It doesn't seem clear if you NEED to be online to save, or if it's more like SteamCloud where it's an additional feature to allow you to access your game from anywhere.
To me it sounds like they are basically copying Steam.
It's nice if it's all optional: SteamCloud has been okay to have.
I'd really only accept this for online only titles, which I tend to not bother with, saving me the trouble.
IIRC Command and Conquer 4 will also have something similar, you will need to be online to play single player etc.

Yeah, and it's damn crazy. But according to EA's "research", most people don't care. Maybe they dont, I dont know. I've encountered a lot of people that say they dont, and obviously the success of Steam is a testament to that.
Getting fed up with game companies they think we are stupid saying no drm when we have to log online to play single players i mean comeon are we that stupid. If this is the way Ubisoft is going i am not buying their games screw them its more money to Gog and other companies that care for their customer and woould rather gift their clients rather than thrash them over the head.

At least I don't have to be online to quick save/quick load Half-Life 2. Heaven forbid how much rage will well up within me, if I ever have to do that
What is up with these companies anyway? Has the passing of years really made them lose every shred of common sense they once had? Are they really trying to test the patience of consumers?
From article:
""If you own a hundred PCs, you can install your games on a hundred PCs," said Brent Wilkinson, Director, Customer Service and Production Planning at Ubisoft. "
WOW GOLLY GEE MR WILKS! IS THIS LIEK A NEW FEATURE OR SOMETHING?????

So, by no DRM you mean worst DRM ever?

EA have already fired the team behind C&C4. So, like Saboteur before it, that title is dead in the water. Especially because, as you say it will require constant support.

Sooo...
On the train = No games for me...
At my moms place where the connection is horrible = No games for me...
When my provider messed up my connection again = No games for me...
When I move and my provider takes ages to register my account to the new Address....
This could go on. Yes I usually do have a working internet connection but it would be rather annoying to be completely unable to play just because of not having one. I had that in Japan for a year, wasn't nice.
I hate it when I have to connect to the internet when I don't want to use it.
