The SOMI remake was an offense. It killed a ton of the charm of the original with its zombie-like characters and wooden animations. And Guybrush's hair! AAARGH!

Yeah, the hair was especially awful. What they were thinking there is anyone's guess. Maybe they were on an 80s rock binge and forgot what good taste in hairstyles was like. Luckily they've fixed it in 2.
The animations might have been no worse than the original's, but given that it was visually improved in every other way it just didn't cut it at all. It was like it was halfway between a beautification and a remake.

Well, I found new animations worse that the original's.
Original game may not had very decomposed animations, but at least the characters seemed to walk correctly. In the new one, I don't know but characters seem to be floating or sliping on the floor.

I think that the problem was that they simply used the old animations right over the new graphics and it just didn't work anymore. Just as you wouldn't expect it to, really. It was pretty lazy, whatever the case.

I don't care, personally. The addition of voice acting made it all WAY more appealing to me.

I half agree, but the voices suffered a similar problem--the spoken lines all had to match up with the dialogue timing from the original game, and because the text usually hung up there a bit too long compared to how long it took for the actors to speak their lines, the dialogue was filled with awkward pauses. That pretty much killed the comic timing, regardless of how good the voice actors were (and they were good).
