Has the OP or anyone actually reported this to GOG?
same here. This is annoying. Hope it gets fixed soon.
I sent a help ticket into GOG and their reply is they are aware of it, trying to fix it, and in the meantime Force Quit is the workaround:

"The issue that you have described in your most recent e-mail is something that we are aware of and are working on addressing ASAP. Currently the workaround to this particular problem that we can offer, is to force quit the client when you are not longer in need of using it."
I'm at my wits end. 4+ months and still the GOG Galaxy launcher for Mac must be force quit, will not update itself and it fails to update BG3 since it's expecting enough space for an entire install.

I came to GoG because I'm against the Steam/DRM model. I had fewer issues during the beta. The issues started at full release Sept. 2023. I had to delete multiple games, including BG3 again, on my Mac to achieve the extra 146 GB it's looking for even though the game was already installed (130GB).

CD Projekt Red has not had a great last few months and I suspect their focus is elsewhere than GoG. Another bad sign is Larian/BG3 is no longer linking to GoG from their first page, they promote a link to Steam instead. I'm going to give this one more shot, mainly since Its the only option, but am strongly considering ordering the Deluxe Edition Disc straight from Larian to avoid all this.

Foolish to wait this long expecting improvement, smarter to cut loses and seek a better option. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

jones_s: Has the OP or anyone actually reported this to GOG?
I reported it in October, and got this answer after a couple of mails back and forth with logs attached, removing the old GOG install and reinstalling it etc:

"An appropriate department is already looking into this issue and we will do our best to fix this issue as soon as possible.

While I sadly cannot give an exact time when the problem will be fixed, once we manage to address the problem, we will definitely let our users know about it via the update that will introduce a fix to the problem at hand."

this is getting really annoying. I hope this gets sorted out: Makes me contemplate leaving GOG.
Will be fixed maybe by itself, thanks to the next macOS coming in late 2024...

@GOG Fix this now. I won't buy anything from GOG until this issue is resolved.
I also confirm on M3 Max 14"

Total piece of garbage of software quality. It has never even started properly as it crashes due to so called "lost connection" even when manually launched Connection via terminal.

This is probably an issue related with permissions of background execution tasks and permissions with the latest MacOS OS versions.
The launcher even without the proper system-wide permissions to run the separate daemon can't start the app. I believe that isn't easy to be able to deal with the maintenance of different kinds and versions of code, and this is probably an issue related with rosetta and the lack of a specific binary to arm-based Macs.

To say it's garbage it's quite too much, is annoying and should be fixed asap.
Same issue here. MacBook Pro 2020, Intel. Sonoma 14.4.1
Please fix it, it's sooooo annoying.
Same here, says I need 153GB to update BG3 and fails. I have 221.8GB free.

Have to force quit the app.

Not a great experience, putting me off using them again too.

MacBook Pro M1 Max
I have a 2018 Intel MacBook Pro. Same issue. doesn't close, requires force quit.
Same problem here, have to force quit the app. M3 MacBook Air on macOS 14.4.1.
