Another thing players need to remember...

You may know you are town...
You may know you are acting completely townly...
But others do not know this...
And think your acting townly is, in fact, an act...

So,
The Resistance is this fun game where... Never mind did that already. If you haven't played I would suggest watching the video I linked in my earlier post, otherwise what I'm about to say will make no sense.

If I was going to mod it this is how it would go:

I'd play with the commander and assassin roles to give it a little extra depth (it's still pretty simple).

Each mission would last one week by which the leader would have to propose the team, like so:
Day 1 Mission A:
Leader: Leonard01
Members: Leonard01, Leonard04

All players would have 24 hours to PM with their vote, like so:
Day 1 Mission A: No

I would then post the results, like this:
Day 1 Mission A: Rejected
Rejected Missions Streak: 1
Leonard01: Yes
Leonard02: No
Leonard04: Yes
Leonard05: Yes
Leonard06: No
Leonard07: No
Leonard08: No

Since it was disapproved (Leonard01 is always a spy...), commander would pass, and second would propose mission:
Day 1 Mission B:
Leader: Leonard02
Members: Leonard04, Leonard08

etc.

Members (of the mission that was approved) would then have 24 hours to send in PM with their contribution (pass or fail).
Day 1 Mission B Contribution: Fail

Results would be posted:

Day 1 Mission B: Fail
Pass: 1
Fail: 1
Leader: Leonard02
Members: Leonard04, Leonard08

Day 2 would begin, and so on.

This is really just a proof of concept and to show I'm still interested in running a game of this.
I really feel like trying to run a Resistance game while a game of mafia is running is not a good idea as it would just require too much time from players. Therefore I would love to be added to the hosting list, heck if it works better for people I could run a game now as it take basically no setup and is pre-balanced.

oh and if anyone has a Banished code they'd want to give to me, my partner is interested in playing that game (we're kind of homesteader/survivalsists to begin with!)
does that really need reminding though? it's one of the absolute obviousnesses, but I guess maybe not to some?

I don't agree about being urged to PM an experienced player as a new player. If all else fails as a new player, just ask the mod or run things past the mod, they will either respond or not to questions they can answer, and mostly as a new player it is easy enough to just answer questions about how mafia work without revealing anything about the specific game being claimed. Best to just learn yourself as you play. Some might be suited for jumping right in, others for observing, but everyone should be tasked with going at it alone for the most part. I will say I msged bler a little during the game about the game, but only because I was bored, frustrated, driven insane by it all, and thought it would be fun for him to get some of my nooooob perspective as I played. I never elicited feedback/input/advice, and he was very good with putting up with my blabbering about it all while I really shouldn't have been probably. I won't msg anyone about any future games ever, I just thought it was fun to do as a noob for someone to see my perspectives a bit.

I do, however, feel really fortunate to have gotten to play 2 werewolf games at a party right after starting my first forum mafia. It was a quick excellent guide, and really allowed me to play much better after my first week of blubbering, but still allowed me to play as a noob and feel out the group from certain noob-accessible only angles.

Oh, and yeah, I did really well in both of those games, with a handful of veteran players, 2 noobs plus myself, 2 medium-experienced players. I was town the first game, helped figure out 1 of 2 werewolves on D1 and got him lynched, then I got the breadcrumbs of the fortune teller, no one else believed me, werewolf had it played that he was lying and that I was wrong about him and it got him lynched, which secured my thoughts on 2nd werewolf, and got me killed at night after the lynch (I should have said before nightfall "If I die THIS guy is the 2nd werewolf, but I didn't and it got him the win ultimately. Everyone said if I would have said that they would have known it was him and lynched him next day, but, I didn't and they didn't. GARRR!)

2nd game I was 1 of 2 werewolves, the guy who won the previous game as werewolf was fortune teller for 2nd game. I won the 2nd game as only werewolf. I had to vote lynch for my fellow werewolf on D2 because of how it all played, but it played beautifully and I killed everyone gruesomely, including convincing town that the fortune teller was the werewolf and getting them to lynch him on D4 which led to my win that night.

lalalaa!!!! NEXT game!! yay!!

For the record, I'm not going to contest that it was really bad play on my part. I've already posted my reasons (read: excuses) multiple times, so I won't reiterate them again.

My biggest issue with your posts (usually) wasn't so much the length, as the repetition often involved in the same post. Once you've said it, you've said it. If you want to make a caveat for the whole post, just note it at the beginning and indicate it applies to the whole post.

'The trouble with that play is that even at first level it hinges on your read being right. And people going along with it because they trust either your gut or your logic. If you do say that and you're wrong, then you've just set up the real WW to kill you and shift blame onto the person you accused.

And accordingly then, even if you are right, it can be WIFOMed to hell.

It's a good way to prove how smart you were after the fact, but it's hard to "direct" the group to the outcome you want.

But everyone should be aware of that contingency (that I could simply be wrong) and keep it in mind, making it easier to figure out, especially since I don't think it would actually make sense for the person who I accused to kill me, that just makes them look suspicious, the real WW should still be discernable. But of course, it is all about who is the best at the subtle WIFOM.

As a moderator, I found this to be a serious pain in my rear. There are so many gray areas when responding to players' questions. Even the way a response is worded can unintentionally give away details about the set-up and give an advantage to the player(s) asking the questions. It is just really hard to give advice while staying neutral and disinterested, at least for me.

I was thinking of this one. It is very simple, and not a lot of moving parts in terms of roles. However, I might easily change my mind; there is a lot of time before it is my turn to moderate again. ;)

Understandable. I'd definitely go with "when in doubt, don't answer." I would even be worried as a player that the mod would reveal something to me that would spoil the game for me. "ohman, do you realize what you just insinuated?!" I like to keep the game even, which is why I was so against the mchack lynch, because I felt that all foiled the game and, was trying to pretend otherwise/give benefit of the doubt by a longshot to QA.

I want this one, many a time I would have loved to be vengeful LOL, plus no night and mafia has to really work at getting townies lynched :)

Hijack writes things off as wIfom too much, but that is exactly wifom. If it would look too suspicious to kill you then it looks too suspicious to NOT kill you.

I'm not saying you should never make the play, but ...

As you note in your first sentence, if you assume everyone should be smart enough to be aware of that contingency of you being wrong, then you should be able to trust that if you accuse someone (without the whole "If I die" part) that if you get killed, then maybe they are smart enough to at least look at where you were pointing without you needing to make it explicit.

Not to say I'll ever be as minimalist as Krypsyn, but when he's town I actually find his style quite effective. Which is probably why he keeps being an early kill and scum keeps letting me live even when I have a power role. ;)

oh yeah, he was quite effective, I found his inputs more helpful than most, despite their style. After a bit it sort of became a "listen to krypsyn, he seems like the only vet that is really contributing worthwhile views at least half of the time and with some frequency." I definitely attribute him to the mchack suspicion and of course the HSL turned adalia assertions. His death was a special contribution to the adalia affirmation.

So who is hosting next and when will it start?
