It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

too lazy to try
I'm not using it yet.
I'm sure I'll try it sometime in the future and maybe even get to use it for good but for now I'm good with the plain old browser download ;)
still "beta" I am adopting wait and see policy not to say Valve take years to refined their masterpiece that is steamwork

BKGaming: Sorry but I kind of find this funny because you like the downloader, but the downloader is technically a client. In computing, a client is a piece of hardware or software that accesses a server to get information or services. Your using a web browser to post which is technically a client. All Galaxy is, is a stripped down web browser essentially.

I just find it funny when people say the like the downloader and dislike clients (aka Galaxy) when there both essentially clients... especially when Galaxy is basically the downloader + more options.
Not to mention that people complain about gaming clients being bloated and they just prefer to do all of that in the web browser, and today's web browsers use several hundred megabytes on a fresh start without loading a web page yet, and basically use about the exact same amount of memory as any other gaming client such as Steam. It's really a hollow argument. :)

GOG Downloader only uses about 31MB or so from what I can see. I don't give a crap though, I have Steam, GOG Downloader, GOG Galaxy, Origin, Uplay all running right now along with 3 web browsers and over 300 web pages loaded. 32GB of RAM makes me totally not give a crap whatsoever. :)
Nope not using it.
Not using it (because I hardly play on the PC). I just have it installed so that it takes some resources and occasionally pops up to bother me. I guess I should make it not start automatically at system start.
Never used it, never will. GoG became my place for buying games, because of what GoG was. I do not like this new shift backward what so ever. It tiresome, been done before and unnecessary.

As I have said before, if I wanted this I would have stuck with steam.

They day GoG force me to use Galaxy, is the day I return to the steam market. I may as well, I have/had more games there anyway.

Martek: You are just being a pedant. You know damn well what people mean but you just had to butt-in with an off-topic 'technicality' .

Just like those that, when (talking about guns) someone says 'clip' and they just can't stop themselves from telling you 'it's a magazine'. Or someone calls a quad-copter a 'drone' and they just can't stop themselves from chiming in with saying 'it's not a drone - which is a UAV blah blah blah; it's a 'remotely piloted aircraft'. Or someone says 'irregardless' blah blah..

We all know those distinctions, but pedants just can't help themselves to telling it to the world so they can show off their 'pedantedness'. /p
avatar
BKGaming: What's sad about this is you actually think that people know these distinctions... um no, no they do not. People think clients in terms of gaming and think Steam, all I did was clarify what an actual client is. I can guarantee you there are many people here that have no idea the downloader is really a client, that they love using and hate clients...
Another tendency I've noticed in pedants is they seem to look at things as black-and-white, instead of as shades-of-gray. For example, do you really think that nobody else (except you <g>) knows the distinction? Do you really think I meant every single person does know? You 'guarantee' that there are many people that have no idea. That's a 'Captain Obvious' observation. Any of us could also 'guarantee' that many folks have an idea. We'd all be correct :) Perhaps that's it - a pedant looks at the glass as half empty - and can't recognize when someone is seeing it as half full.

avatar
BKGaming: PS: And FYI there is a very different distinction between a clip and magazine, people should be educated so they know the difference otherwise we continue to promote people thinking things that aren't correct...
So even though it's heavily inferred in my post that I know the difference (otherwise why posit it as an example?); as I already noted, a pedant just can't help saying it. Even when it's obvious. They cannot stop themselves. You have made my point :) Hey, it isn't anything personal; it's just observations.

avatar
BKGaming: Not that I really care what you think though... I never said there was anything wrong with his view, I just found it a little funny as someone who is in the computer field. :)
I hope you have a fruitful career in the field. I'm a retired 'computer field' guy myself, and I loved every single day of my 25+ years in it. Hopefully you'll find it as good a career as i did. :)

Cheers
Tried to use it, not my thing for the moment.

It looks like good but i wait until it can store .exe files. For now, i'll stick to the GOG downloader.

Not everything needs to be looked at in shades of gray, sometimes it really is just black and white. :)

Martek: For example, do you really think that nobody else (except you <g>) knows the distinction?
Of course not, never claimed anything of the such.

avatar
Martek: Do you really think I meant every single person does know?
You said and I quote... "We all know those distinctions". I'm only going by what you stated.

No, because if you look through this thread & forum there is clear evidence supporting such statement. You can of course guarantee many do know and you would probably be correct. Those people generally aren't in this thread or forum however.

If you knew it or not is irrelevant, the main point was by allowing such things we continue to promote people thinking things that aren't correct.

Good for you... glad you had a great career honestly. This is again irrelevant to the main point. You haven't disagreed with what I actually stated on a technical level, so I feel your just trying to argue over something stupid to make yourself feel better or to make your opinion valid. I don't know, but it's really not my concern nor do I care. It isn't anything personal; it's just observations.

Take care though. :)

I've tried using it several times, but it's not doing it for me. There's just no void, for me, that Galaxy seems to fill.

Who knows, maybe that will change later?

skeletonbow: ...
Actually, I noticed Steam got very nicely optimized in this particular area. It's currently taking 40 megs of my RAM, which is tiny. In comparison, Galaxy is eating up a bit over 100, and Firefox... My god, I'm not even going to mention Firefox.
Nope.

I did not know that, probably because guns aren't quite as accessible over here.
I learned something today.

Also, I don't 'use' the client either.
I do have it installed though, to check it out.
I have no intention of using galaxy atm,

In my opinion it is unneeded and a waste of time and development, same as those stupid shitty movie releases

Dont get me wrong I still like GOG but I am not keen on the direction they are trying to go atm
