HOURS TO GO

Kinda gone cold on the t shirt design after a bit of thinking :/
With 37 hours to go and $2,592,909 raised so far, the $30 tier has just been updated:

Also we have spent some time thinking about and asking fans what we could put into the $30 tier to make it more interesting and to not disrupt what has already been offered. I think we have come up with an interesting list that may persuade a few people to upgrade. Based on your top requests and a forum poll we now offer the following as part of the $30 tier:

- An extra digital download of the game in any format. Many people wanted to be able to get a Mac AND a PC version, or PC and Linux, or even an extra PC version for a friend. Now you can.

- Access to a collection of exclusive Ranger portraits that will double the pool of character portraits you have to choose from at the start of the game when you are rolling up your Rangers. This unique image collection will not only give you more Ranger portraits, but more Ranger icons used to display your party location on the world map.

- Access to a four-episode Video Development Blog that will show you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the design and development of Wasteland 2. Sit in on designer meetings and art-review meetings to see the process behind how the game is made. See interviews with Brian Fargo, Chris Avellone, Mike Stackpole, Alan Pavlish, and the rest of the development team as they explain to you what they are doing and why they are doing it.

- A novella by Chris Avellone based on the universe of Wasteland.

Of course, all backers who are in at higher levels will also get all of these added items too.
While I am a bit 'disappointed' by #1 (I wrongly assumed you got access to all three platform) and don't care much for #2, I think a lot of people may find #3 and #4 interesting enough to upgrade their $15 pledge.

30 dollar pledge is sexy. Definitely a lot of good value there between the extra copy of the game, soundtrack, and the other goodies. That's a no brainer upgrade for me.
I feel happy that with paypal and KS funds combined, total ammount now probably exceeds 3 mil usd which means we'll get one HUGE game.
Can't wait for it now :D

Unfortunately not - only $82,000 were donated through PayPal, so the total is around $2.73 million right now.
Still think either $50 or $100 best value if u want the box ;)...
Just noticed the $100 comes with a small miniature....so tempted

I definitely agree with that. I don't understand the reasoning behind restricting people to just one platform when all three are being produced. Especially given the fact that this is a DRM free game and those that want all multiple platforms would probably just give it to a friend and copy the extra one.

Technically they did say or, but that really doesn't make sense as most people don't run the same game on multiple platforms at once, it's generally too big of a headache with the settings and such.
I went with the $55 "All Digital" edition. No need for yet another fancy big box taking up space.

If you have a look at the comments on KS, one user Rachel Tengs comments pretty much sums up the argument against giving the game for 3 platforms with one payment.

Game will be windows first and foremost. Then ported to Mac and Linux. So extra work is being done on it Hence this became reality once it hit 1.25 (or thereabouts). I don't see how people can justify asking for extra copies outside whats offered for each tier. All that will do it reduce the copies people will want to pay for.
There's a post by a Rachel Teng that best sums up reasons against offering multiple copies for one payment just cause you use multiple OS's

ah, my bad :( I think I somewhere read that paypal amount was bigger :( But nevermind, they have more than enough to make an awesome game :D

There is no extra work involved once those other copies are created and the Steam version is apparently going to cover both Mac and Windows, leaving the DRM free version as a single platform.

Once they do the work to create a Linux version there is precisely zero additional cost to them and expecting to be paid multiple times for the same person to play is just silly. Most other games I've bought provide all OSes that they support for the same price because quite frankly it's unlikely that anybody is going to want to play through both versions at the same time.

The only reason people want both is because they're likely to not be committed to going Linux permanently or think they're likely to stop using Windows at sometime in the future. What's more the Linux version is essentially future proofed as you're almost certainly going to be able to install it later on, or maintain a separate install with just important things updated.

If they want extra money for the licenses fine, but making people pay double for something that's definitely not twice as good is just getting greedy. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting double the money for the second license, but requiring individuals to have two licenses in cases where they're dual booting, but not when their using the same version on multiple installs just makes no sense at all.

Nobody is asking for multiple copies. People are asking for one copy (i.e. one license) that will run on all OS's.

Where exactly is that post by Rachel Tengs? (Approximately will be good enough; is it on the update, on the main comments, when was it posted approximately?)

I'll be looking forward to reading the reasons, but I can't imagine that they're anything but financial reasons, i.e., the game will make more money if people must buy for each OS separately. As I said on the kickstarter update, this is exactly the publisher-centric view that a fan funded model should be getting away from. Don't screw the customers to get a few percent more money. You'll still make enough without that.

Exactly, I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about that. Within a year or so of me returning to the US, I'm likely to have to replace my main gaming rig after years of service, and I don't want to stock up on games which are Windows only if I can help it.

All the other kickstarter games I've pledged to have offered all of the platforms under a single license. I'm not sure why Wasteland shouldn't. Even if everybody who runs all three platforms chooses to do so, I can't imagine any of those people being willing to pay for an additional copy for the other platforms.I'd much rather give my extra copy away as a gift.

I probably won't downgrade, but I probably should on principle.
Any information whether GOG has approached inXile or vice versa, yet? Because this is one game I'd really, really, really, really like to see on GOG.

I think it's a bit premature for anything beyond informal talks and we're certainly not going to hear anything before a deal is signed. It looks good and I'll be getting a couple copies, but until something is released it's way too early to just assume that the magic is going to be there. With the crew working on it, it should be good, but it could still wind up a buggy POS.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the new Wasteland end up here, perhaps with a lead in with the original game.
