you misunderstand me. I don't think there is an issue with this game's cultural representations or motivations. ECHO kind of weirded out my personal culture junk, and I don't remember a controversy over that game. so if ECHO don't have a controversy I feel like this game don't need a controversy.

I and quite a few others think there is a HUGE issue with the game's "cultural representations and motivations".

What makes it a huge deal is that it is an immersion-breaker. You can't ignore it if the game constantly reminds you of its political objectives. And when those particular political objectives are the same degenerate, odious objectives that the political Left has attempted to shove down the throats, by force or by fraud, of unwilling populations for decades, you will find that most of the people that would form the natural customer base for a computer fighting robots game find these political objectives to be loathesome in the extreme.

As in "I was prepared to pay full price for this game and play it today but this is a deal breaker to such a degree that I will now never play it even if it is handed out to me for free."

This game is a franchise-destroyer. BattleTech will be abandoned as a direct result of this cultural assault on its existing fan base.
Ugh. I used to take issue with feminism because of the whole "I shouldn't have to feel guilty over having an XY chromosome and being a little horny" but some of the gamers' toxic reactions to this game have me questioning even that. You have Kingdom Come Deliverance. From what I heard, it's a good game. You even celebrated the downvote campaign against Subnautica! What more could you possibly demand?

Kakarot96: Any of you, more experienced fellow GOGers with reviews, know if this have any precedents on GOG? It is usual to reset and thus delete hundreds of votes from reviews? I ask because i don't know, it was my first review (and probably the last one, i don't like being censored so "subtly")

Any info on this would be appreciated. Thank you all.
Interesting. I have lost reviews before and counters have resetted for me as well sometimes. It's difficult to tell because you can't (or perhaps couldn't, dunno now with profiles) keep track of your reviews the way you can on Steam. I'd like to think this wasn't done intentionally but you never know.

I will not pay for a game that features genocidal, left-wing, current-day politics.

It's not an argument. It's my demand as a buyer.

This product fails to meet that demand.

And unfortunately, once again a treasured and storied franchise dies, thanks to left-wingers who would destroy anything just to make everyone else as unhappy and miserable as they are.

What? Guess you must be real weak then. Feminism is far more than just what it does in games. It permeates and distorts education, the State, the Courts. It is privileging women and superiority for women. It demeans boys and men. It destroys family and is bringing down society and, if allowed, will ultimately destroy Society. Nobody of a fair mind and JUSTICE (not sjw justice, real Justice), should like feminism regardless of the game.

And the amount of non feminist/ non sjw games today are tiny.

And I haven`t even tried the games you mentioned. however, now I will give Kingdom Come a look.

Isn't there a message board on The Blaze you could be stinking up instead?

Not an argument and you feminists types never have one.

johnnygoging: what is all this SJW shit.

what is this crap.

why is this a thing?

it's a fucking videogame about fucking giant ass robots.

it's a robot fighting videogame.

GamingVeteran: That's what I thought also. Why did this game need to be wrapped in modern-day ideological politics?

It's beyond bizarre that the company chose a developer who would clearly prefer to have the entire existing BattleTech franchise userbase lined up against a wall and shot for the crimes of being too white, too straight, and too male.

Who did they think their customers were?

Why can't we have our robot fighting games free of the relentless encroachments of Cultural Marxism?
Totally Agree!

Yes I will be more careful on who is working on games that I buy. I bought the game through a third party for steam so couldn't refund it. I still had it permanently removed from my account, along with all of that companies other games. I even supported the company and backed the first shadowrun game, I'm ashamed of that now.

I only made it as far as the 'pronoun' instead of gender selection screen, where I had that nasty surprise. Clearly I need to do more research before buying now that this nonsense has slimed its way into gaming.

On the upside, I find it absolutely refreshing that it appears gog hasn't been as heavy handed with censoring opinions as steam has been. That's a very good reason I should probably get more games from here!
(never mind, brain derp)

Olauron: Is the DLC that is talked below a pre-order bonus or the backer reward?
If it is the former (the pre-order bonus or something announced on GOG-page), this should be fixed to be available regardless of logging in any account.

HypersomniacLive: Why only if it's the pre-order bonus or something announced on GOG? If this requirement was not preemptively communicated to backers so they could make an informed decision about supporting them, yet a DRM-free option on GOG was offered, it's equally problematic, and needs to be rectified a.s.a.p.

Don't quite understand why it would have been less secure to get people their backers or pre-order content with and extra code redeemable on the store of their choice. Or do it the way other crowd-funded devs did, confine everything in one's edition; its' not like the title will show as owned here anyway.

It's disingenuous to claim you support a DRM-free release and not trust the ones giving you their money even before your title exists.
I agree. I'm a backer of the game.
The issue is that a drm-free version was promised but non delivered. Backers found out on release date, together with customers that preordered the game. This was not what they pledged for and there was plenty of time to warn them before release so that they could act accordingly by either switch to a different platform or asking for a refund. Lack of trust in the backers by the campaign author is baffling as they are the one that ask for trust in the first place. Yet they neglect backers at evey occasion. Even something easy like providing the edition with more content that match their pledge seems to elude them.

I asked and obtained a refund for the lack of a drm-free version by contacting HBS thorough mail. They were quick to provide me that.

GOG still to blame for selling games with drm and still pretending they are not. The crucial information on the game card is positioned in a way that is not clearly visible. Even if they warn the user the game card still says DRM-FREE, which is a lie.

The real question is, isn't there something besides a storied robot fighting franchise that the Left could pick as the place to start a political fight?

And let's not pretend otherwise - this is a fight picked by the Left.

No previous installment of any variation on this franchise had anything remotely resembling a "gender confused" option.

There was absolutely no call by the fans for any such option.

It adds nothing to gameplay whatsoever.

What it does do is send a message, right out of the gate, that the developer's priorities are radically different from - and hostile to - the priorities of your typical BattleTech franchise customer.
You're the one seeing shadows and evil where there are none.

pmcollectorboy: You're the one seeing shadows and evil where there are none.
Your statement could not better meet the definition of gaslighting. That is literally what the abuser does to his target in the movie from which the term is derived.

Yet the facts and evidence before us say definitively otherwise, in the form of a "they" choice and supporting features in the character generator that were never previously present in the franchise, and additional choices (no blonde hair, "diversity" cast, Trump proxy as big bad) that play into a worldview that no one can credibly pretend to be unfamiliar with - a worldview decidely unpopular with the franchise's customers.

That was a developer choice. No lore or previous history of the franchise, nor any customer demand, supported this choice.

There was absolutely no need to politicize this game.

Politicizing the game in this way is like mixing dog turd into strawberry ice cream. It doesn't matter how small the portion of dog turn in the ice cream is, the outcome in terms of suitability for consumption is the same.
