I guess i just stepped into the Steam forums. Jesus Christ folks, calm down.

Not certain this is the right thread to report this in, but a response I just got in email from HBS had two important nuggets of information:

1) They are looking "to see what kind of workarounds we can come up with".
2) "quick answer I was given yesterday was that it was done that way for security reasons."

Item number 1 is good news.

Item number 2 is a little silly. When I hear someone say they did something for "security reasons", one of my first thoughts is "Whose security, and from what threat?" I can't think of any kind of logical answer to that in this case. Wondering if others have thoughts.

That still doesn't explain why that was not communicated before release, it was not up to them to keep that information hidden. If they wanted to change some of the rewards for backers, they should have communicated it and offer choices to those backer like refunding or changing rewards. That's true even for preorders as the 3rd party account requirement was not a know information at that time. And clearly this is not a last minute decision.

Still both them and GOG decidede they could call this game drm-free when it is not.

I know one thing if you have a GTX 1060 don't upgrade to the new nvidia drivers for battletech . thry are giving headachs. i spent 2 hours screwing with them. just read about it ob RPS.
More movements in this release, people. It's a non-stop :S

After all that thing with DRM content in a DRM-free game, etc...now we have a fresh new.:Reviews had been resetted on the store page.

My own review, which this morning had almost 150 votes (and approx. 100 positives) now it is buried with 4 votes in one of the last pages of reviews. It was about the DRM content in our "DRM-free" game, to warn all people about that fact. Now has 0 visibility on page...12, i think (resetted, voted with 3 or 4 negatives and 1 positive, so buried forever more)

The second more readed review, with almost the same votes as mine, has been resetted as well (or erased, i'm not sure).

Instead, if you go right now to the store page and see the actual reviews on the first page, you can see 4 and 5 star reviews (with just 1 new review with 2 votes that gives 1 star to the game) and 0 words about the DRM content. Funny, huh?

All the negative ones are...nowhere, and if a person enters today, it will only think that game is a 4 or 5 stars and will know nothing about what have happened. This is...awesome :P

Any of you, more experienced fellow GOGers with reviews, know if this have any precedents on GOG? It is usual to reset and thus delete hundreds of votes from reviews? I ask because i don't know, it was my first review (and probably the last one, i don't like being censored so "subtly")

Any info on this would be appreciated. Thank you all.

Edit: Oh, another thing i just noticed right now: the game doesn't show anymore as Owned by me on the store page?? This is usual, also? It's the first time it happens to me. All the other games in my library seem to be ok and "owned" by me on their respectives store pages.

Edit2: oh, god, there is even more. Now in my library, the store page link from my "not owned" game has changed from the basic edition thas was before to the deluxe edition. But i don't own any edition for GOG, so if i enter on the basic game store page, i cannot edit or change my rating, because, of course, i don't own the game. No, i don't have any of the extras of the deluxe game, despite that. I think it is very clear that something very strange has happened on those store pages and with reviews. I didn't know that could also change if you own a game you bought or not, though.

I will ask the support but all of this is...infuriating at the very least.

It depends, from my experience the people from gog are quire openminded compared! to other companys but for some touchy subject the act like a inquisition ;)
I wrote a bad review on crashlands in the past&asked for the monyback because several singleplayerstuff needed a 3.Party-account to be unocked. I don't care about achievments or stuff like this but they even locked a number of crafting recipes and for a game like crashland crafting/upgrading is a major part..so..i felt cheated.
The review dispapeared, my email was ignored..i wrote a comments at the forum..that was activ for around 30h and then disapeared too. Happen to me three or four times with other stuff. Never got some kind of call to order, like you breaked the Rules..the stuff just disapeared and attempts to directly communicate the matter where ignored.

It started after they took more new games and the first AAA-titles, i can only guess but maybe they have to play nice for the publishers...or they sold their Virtue and play nice for us ;) Anyway..gog is my favorite and the best way left...compared o EA/Ubisoft/Steam/...

When I open the game card of BATTLETECH the first reviews I get are the following. Does not look like fake / deleting unfavorable reviews:

User beware: extra content needs Online login (1 star)
It looks pretty sometimes (2 stars) [also includes a rant about the DRM]
Maybe wait for some patches on this one. (3 stars)
Causes Major Issue with GPU (2 stars)
Great game with game breaking bugs. (2 stars)

Oh, Crashlands, yes, i know what you are talking about, and It has similarities with this. Partly, that's it. If i'm not wrong, even though the store page says Vista as a minimum OS, you couldn't log in in their accounts with that System to access the perks, achievements, leaderboards, etc Even people with Win7 had problems to log there, but XP and Vista were directly out of the system (because TLS 1.2 or something like that)

Ok, thank you very much for sharing your experience. I am waiting for my ticket to be answered and i hope will be, but if not now i now it can happen. At least, my review is again (still?) there, just it had to begin from 0. I will wait and see, i'm sad for the reviews and also worried for my game (still there is no "Owned" to me in the store page, in any of the editions and i can't do anything with my rating that is non editable now even it shows there)

I hope the last part could be resolved, i feel like if game for me is now a special hidden edition that don't have the right to even vote. Nice taste for the backers, sure :S

And about the review...well, let's see but i think nothing can be done about it. I hope to get an explanation, i am sure that 1)something has changed in the store pages or 2)something has changed just for me. I will wait a bit before getting my own conclussion. If the changes are to solve the DRM question and the backers question (we don't have any special content here on GOG, we only see the plain base game in our libraries) and has something to do with a complicated web code system about reviews and updating the store pages, then i will review again in the future. If not, then it will not happen again to me and will forget about reviews on GOG at all knowing how this all works.

I was not expecting this, not at all. I don't like the profiles thing and how they managed the new privacy options, but still didn't expect anything so bad with reviews. It is very sad to know that reviews can disappear without any explanation, but maybe i'm just being naive.

I said the reviews were resetted, not deleted. At least, not mine. But about 250-300 votes between the first 2 i mentioned have disappeared. That's why i said that maybe something has happened to the store pages and why i was asking for other experiences/info.

You should not be suprised. It's been ongoing for at least a couple of years. Galaxy, regional pricing, online only games, etc. In fact, other than a mod workshop, and optional CEG component, a much larger catalog, and better prices, GOG is Steam. No difference, and imagine the MW and optional CEG component will come if they want the bigger library. Sad, but the difference has been eroded and is now gone.

Really? So, you can now download your game from Steam and launch in on any PC without Internet connection even for single-player?

I strongly disagree. On GOG, you can download the installers (or back up the installation folders) and they work without any acconts, clients or activations. On GOG, you have a curated store with games that are mostly guaranteed to work out of the box for everyone. On GOG, in-game purchases (microtransactions) are mostly not allowed. On GOG, 3rd party DRMs for singleplayer games are not allowed (and if they slip though the curation process, the games get pulled from the store or fixed to work offline). On GOG, you have customer service. On GOG, you can refuse to update your games, even if you use Galaxy.

So, GOG is mostly different from Steam. Yes, there are similarities (the social stuff, the achievements, the cloud saves), but most of them are optional. On Steam, you're forced to agree to everything they throw at you, you're forced to "phone home" for validating licenses, you're forced to update your games and you're actually forced to install the client. Right now, if you want, you can use GOG like you use Steam. But you're not forced to. CDP and GOG know that their only selling point is the DRM-free stance (and, in fact, they still use it for marketing purposes). I can't see them dropping that principle (which is the one that really matters for most of us). It'd be like Steam going DRM-free: a suicide for their business.
Something really, really weird is going on with the review section of this game. I`ve done lots of reviews and sometimes they just don`t show up, but I have never seen this level of craziness with reviews until BattleTech.

Also, What is this trick that you can`t use the DLC skin unless you log into Paradox? I don`t remember seeing that warning until AFTER release.

There`s some kind of sweet little lying crap going on here. I don`t want to go to conspiracy theories, but I`m beginning to think GOG is in suspcious cahoots with Paradox over this game.

You are getting dodgy, GOG... It`s worrying me.

Explain what`s going on, GOG, with no white lies, because I`m not afraid to Walk and do without modern games if I have to.

There is a lot of mostly's there. Does this game have components which you need to login to, apparently so, is Gwent online only, yep. You can download certain games off steam and do exactly the same as here, no different. Sure steam has an optional CEG component, but that is a revs choice. Am afraid the differences are rapidly dwindling and if you are happy to keep fooling yourself it's not that's up to you

Yup there was no warning, it was a surprise even for backers. We got our GOG (or Steam) keys, but without the DLC extra content. The same release day we went again to out backer kit account to get that extra content, and then we had a note telling us how to claim that DLC through a Paradox account...on the very last minute.

Even the warning they added (too late) on the store pages (both here and on Steam) are worded to not clearly say that you are forced to be online on a Paradox server to use your extra content. It just say you need an account to claim your keys, nothing more.

It is all strange, and my assumption, given thow it went all, is that HBS's initial plans were nothing like this and it has been a last time decision.

As Paradox want nothing with GOG since a few years and refuse to release nothing here, they are having problems each time they publish a game not from themselves but that was promised to be here: Pillars of Eternity (and Obsidian has said goodbye to Paradox after that and went back to self-publish), Surviving Mars, Tyranny, Age of Wonders 3...

You will see no Stellaris, Crusader Kings 2 or Europa Universalis 4 here, anyway. They dropped support for GOG and went just for Steam because, as themselves said we are: "only a 5% of our customers" (thank you, Johan, that was very nice...)

Some of their old games that were released here still have problems, also, and will have for eternity. Look at Majesty 2 and it's awful online verification of the extra content. And you ask today (i did just a few months ago) to the original devs, that are not working anymore with Paradox, and they will tell you they tried (even recently), but can't do nothing about it (can touch the code, but can't touch the code and release a patch, they need Paradox for that) so we had to do it ourselves (community work FTW)

In Majesty 2, some of the content is still locked for GOG version. And you know? It is exactly the same thing that happens today with Battletech: you need to go online in-game and connect to a external server to activate the content...sounds familiar?

Despite that, it seems they have power around here one way or another. I also don't like talking about conspiracies, but what happens in general with Paradox here, despite the treatment the publisher does to GOG, is a bit strange.

So it is sad to see that all the people who was very worried after the HBS announcement of a partnership with Paradox (not me, i still trusted in HBS given their past with GOG) were right and we are starting to see the consequences.

Look at Shadowrun titles here. They have extra content, DLC's (expansions they called it, i'm sure from now on we will just see DLC's to BT, no more "epxansions") and all are a patch you download here and claim the extra content, as with the majority of the games on GOG.

Now they change all of that way to do things and start talking about "our security" and the "value" of our extra content, so it needs to be "protected" with DRM...they never talked like that, and rushed 2 days ago to say everyone (without allowing any discussion or questions) that they, HBS, were the unique responsible for this decision, and that Paradox has nothing to do with it...ahem lol, i'm starting to really see conspiracies and i don't want to. But it all smells so weird...

Oh, and better don't talk about the technical state of the release. It's like they were until the same day of release coding and coding to try to solve all the problems it has, because, of course, they couldn't wait a bit more and polish and test their game (no conspiracies, again, but this is a constant with some devs after a partership with a big publisher)

Lastly, for the store i still don't own anymore my Battletech game :S if that's not weird...

Kakarot96: Lastly, for the store i still don't own anymore my Battletech game :S if that's not weird...
You backed this game, so are you saying you DLed the game from GOG but it doesn't show as owned when you look at the store page? If so, that's normal - backer copies have a different identification number and won't show you as owning the game when viewing the store page.
