I still don't understand the hype around this new version of the game .

rojimboo: I finally have a rig capable of playing this at high settings, but I'll have to wait for it to become non-Steam-exclusive. Also, a price drop would be appreciated. Nostalgia might conquer me though...must...stay...away...from Steam...
I don't think it's worth buying even on GOG. Definitely even less if it follows the regular Bethesda Time rules and shows up here a decade later - I personally am not going to commit myself to waiting for Skyrim (but another version of a game we already have).

Neither do I, but the same was true of the ass ugly Lion King remake which is now the third highest grossing animated movie of all time . For some reason "hey, I can spend extra money to experience the thing I remember from my childhood but modernised and ugly" seems to be a big draw.

amok: If it were trans- or intersex-friendly, there would be at least three body types. There aren’t; it’s a strict binary. This has nothing to do with any agenda, apart from the one you yourself are projecting onto it.
avatar
lupineshadow: And those two binary (sex) body types are called male and female.
In this game they are called 1 and 2
avatar
Memecchi: The problem is that calling male and female "type 1 and type 2" follows one of the most braindead trends ever in gaming, have your heard or seen anyone refer to themselves as "type 2"? this panders to absolute no one except some self-declared form of inclusion

No trans person, or non-binary or anything else calls themselves "type"
avatar
Mafwek: Would you say this is the case of trying to not offend anyone but managing to piss off everyone?
Maybe! there's just no point in it, and I wouldn't even care if it was one game or two, but almost every AAA or indie realease with a character creator has the same nonsense (type 1 or 2, body 1 or 2, appearance 1 or 2) so it gets super annoying

avatar
amok: And no one, except some very triggered people, is claiming that this is about being trans or intersex. There are two body types, they are cosmetic, and you choose either one you like.

Way to miss the point lol, I'm precisely saying that this trend satisfies no one

Or 2 and 1? For someone who is a proponent of the renaming, you have gotten it wrong every single time you posted here.

Currently the Remaster is on Steam and of course Microsoft (they own Bethesda) only, so we got to say way more than credited to us (GOG users). Nonetheless... i think there are some good mods out there able to give a near comparable result, who knows... without the currently hefty price tag of 60+ coins.

Sure, do not ask me how the "average" Mexican can afford the current price tag of 46 USD, with a monthly salary of around 900 USD it seems (probably lesser, average is a bad number, as it tends to exclude the majority).

Yeah the pricing feels pretty off in a lot of regions. Mods really help level the playing field though, especially for folks who can’t or don’t want to pay full price.

This. :-)

I'm very happy with the "Game of the Year Edition" from GOG.
Yes the remaster looks pretty good. But it also looks like every other unreal 5 engine game. And it has the same ugly, greyish color filter like Skyrim.

idbeholdME: They are not the only option, but the mainstream option. As in, 80-90% won't ever bother checking anywhere else. Probably a slightly lower % for mods, but still the vast majority.
I might be able to understand if 80-90% will drink nothing different than water... which is actually not the case, but why they do not use anything different than Steam and Nexusmods in usual is beyond my understanding.

In general... this is known by me... like 80+% are actually not that much different from each others, inside somewhat comparable social groups. So, the people who really are pretty special in some way only make up around 10-20% of the whole cookie. In this term i see some similarities.

Nah... the record holder of the most greyish color filter is probably Monster Hunter Wilds using the RE engine. It does not always look somewhat faulty but on dark areas true black does not exist.

There are many UE5 game with pretty crispy colors (so, a good gamut) but UE5 is in some way like DX11... it is taking away a lot of custom, unless the devs are customizing everything themself, which is rarely the case. In the end we got some uniformity which makes the games less interesting and even removing a lot of art-count.

I surely agree that the old Oblivion got very good colors. The issue is on other spots which mostly could be fixed with mods. PC as well got no native gamepad support but i got a mod that can bring it back (using the native Xbox360 files left there),

I think this new version is for graphics lovers w/ new tech, more or less - or fans of the OG that want the new graphics upgrade. Or also this is going to appeal to those new to gaming, never played Oblivion GOTY and want current era graphics on it.

I'm perfectly fine w/ the old version of Oblivion GOTY Deluxe, TBH.

Until this new version gets cheap and/or comes to GOG - that'll be when I'll be interested in getting it. I definitely want to check out this new version - but not at $50+.

If this was a $10 upgrade - oh, I'd so be in. But it ain't, which is fine; I can wait. And my big backlog already got plenty of games to play anyways.

Probably at $10, I'll be in; might be a while since this is so moving units on the bent-elbow store. I'd also be curious how it would run on my 8gb RTX 3070 too.

Hehe, indeed. And not so much a 'proponent of renaming', but rather a 'proponent of who-gives-a-fuck'.

It satisfied me; I have no problem with it. They could call it 'Spaghetti' and 'Unicorn' for all I care, it makes no difference. It's just a button you click on the first character creation page, then never see again. As I said, this is only a problem for those who choose to make it a problem.

I completely agree. I am really fed up with all those idiots that make a mountain out of a molehill. I really don't care how they name a one second choice that you only see once at the start of a game lasting hours and hours. The complaints about it are completely out of proportion... I am a gamer for over more than 40 years, but I never seen so much crybabies as the last few years.
Hopefully people can be patient for this to come to GOG, plenty of advantages to waiting:

- DRM-free copy to download.
- Any major bugs should be dealt with (This being Bethesda though bugs are a feature so)
- Hopefully the price will come down or a better discount by the time it comes here.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks Skyrim's color filter looks awful. I am still impressed that the game manages to have some aesthetically pleasing environments despite that.

And those who want better leveling system, since it is great improvement over original. But speaking of graphics, Oblivion Remastered has terrible characters just like other Elder Scrolls games. Its facial animations are especially hideous IMHO. Another thing Bethesda never manages to do right it seems.
