If getting back on track is possible, apparently CDPR has leaked that they recognize that Ciri is weaker/nerfed compared to her end-game counterpart in W3. We dont know if this nerf is permanent or not.

https://www.thegamer.com/the-witcher-4-ciri-overpowered-addressed-cdpr/

She has gone through the trial of the grasses and producer Mitrerga states "The gap between her being totally overpowered at the end of the previous game and now, with the skill set we showed off in the trailer... something totally happened in-between" and this will be one of the story focuses for W4.

Personal thoughts, Im glad they arnt sweeping it under the rug and why Ciri lost her powers will likely be a major plot point and this will depend on how gameplay works but I hope CDRP at least takes the lessons learned from W3 to improve combat in W4.

When playing W3, I rarely used heavy attacks. Heavy attacks are slower and since enemies are often monsters, didnt flinch that much from heavy attacks. I often found it made more sense to dodge in and out quickly with quick attacks to take down enemies and I rarely included heavy attacks. Ciri's gameplay was much better in this regard, especially after she unlocked her powers. Her dodge was a dash that allowed her to warp but is arguably too large a gap and her heavy charge allows her to warp strike enemies, making the risk of charging her heavy worth it. Ciri's combat was more fun than base Geralt in W3 and I do hope they bring that to W4.

Also hope that Ciri plays pretty differently from Geralt. Geralt is a veteran witcher, having been in the field for many years. He is also uniquely resistant to potions, having gone through additional trials beyond the grasses which may be why using toxicity and consuming a large number of potions is unique to him. Ciri is gifted in magic and is relatively new to being a witcher. my previous discussion on female witchers are also apparently fanon (my mistake) although female witcher Dragonfly from the witcher RPG is argubaly canon. Ciri should have a different skillset, different strengths and weaknesses, and should play differently from Geralt (or why switch away from Geralt?).

Swedrami: "The second thing is that, yes, we are working on a new engine right now, together with Epic's engineers, and there is a great synergy and a great collaboration between us. And currently we're working on Unreal Engine 5 and our custom build."
No good news considering their love for Linux ... :(

If The Witcher IV retains the basic formula which made the Witcher III a success, then I would expect that it will be good.
Perhaps, we could all mention aspects of The Witcher III which still make it truly great and adds to its replay value.

I'm certain that there are things which we also feel might have been improved as well. I'll start, then.

I loved the large, rich, and open world with so many rewarding and enjoyable quests.
The immersive story made the game interesting and "the path" a pleasure to follow.
The Witchers interactions between each other and the other characters were fun and interesting and kept the story cohesive. For example, Geralt's friendship and conversations with Regis was priceless.
Exploring and discovering special and unique weapons and gear was exciting and made using and collecting them fun.
Playing as Geralt and even battling monsters (human or otherwise) became easier and more natural over time.
Geralt being given a real "home," a place of his own was likely my favorite gift the game had in store for we players.

I didn't enjoy playing as Ciri, because it seemed more fluid and easier to stick with one individual to play throughout the game. Switching between fighting styles was awkward.
Unwanted items might have been able to be discarded, disappearing after a minute or so. (cleaner inventory management)
Most importantly, the main quest made it difficult to enjoy the side quests because it compelled one to stick to "saving Ciri." Therefore, I usually saved the bulk of the side quests for play after the main quest and that seemed a bit awkward.
All too often, the main quest would just take over and ones need to pause or return to the game later was not an option.
