Niggles: You seem to have pretty good taste (as to a few others) :D -- im curious are there game types or genre's you wont touch?.
Thank you for the nice comment. :)
There's only a few genres of games that don't interest me - sports games, modern war simulators, endless runners, and bullet-hell twitch shooters. But even then, if the game does something fresh, I might still pick it. I'm also not a fan of the current AAA games that focus on thuggish "heroes", antisocial behaviour, and crude sexism. I find entertainment in original and creative visions, not simulated crassness.
Basically I have a very wide palate for games. Some genres I love to death, others have to be exceptional for me to pick up a game in. But a good game is a good game, and I try to call them out, regardless of what they are, be they RPG, FPS, HOG, RTS, P&C, or something else.
EDIT: Oh, and to add to the recent recommendations,
Don't Starve is great, even though you die a lot (pretty much every time you play). Same can be said of
FTL. In some permadeath games you do better because you can unlock or carry stats over from previous plays (
Risk of Rain,
Rogue Legacy). But with
Don't Starve and
FTL, your subsequent plays are better solely because you become a better player. That's awesome right there.
