Kristian: I highly doubt that someone faked a legal document by Atari.

"Edit: The document is from 07/19 and the upload date from 07/20/2013. Is that possible?"

Of course you can upload a document from 19.07 on 20.07.

DukeNukemForever: True ;-) Maybe I should try it again: Fits that dates with the auctions?

Edit: Reading my text again I believe I should be more clear, so once again ;-) What I wanted to ask is when were the auctions and is it possible to release a legal overview of all bids on that date.
Yes that fits with the auction dates for those games.
Concerning Star Control.... Both Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford still own the rights to Star Control 1 and 2. It appears all Stardock purchased was the Star Control Trademark and the Star Control 3 specific IP.

Interesting... got a source for that? How come those games are on GOG then? Atari must at least have publishing rights for them then.
high rated
Atari has the trademark for Star Control (obviously a key component) and the (c) for Star Control 3.

But Paul Reiche owns the (c) for Star Control 1/2. You couldn't do a HD version of Star Control 1/2 without his permission.

In terms of the game universe itself, we wouldn't (I work at Stardock) want to do anything that would be considered "canon" without Paul Reiche's blessing and, ideally, involvement.

None of this will affect Star Control on GOG except where checks get sent to. :) Stardock is already a GOG partner.

But there will be a new Star Control game with Star Control 2 serving as a major source of inspiration. :) That's about all I can say at this time.

That's nice to hear. Thanks for coming and telling us!
So we can strike Star Control 1 + 2 off the list of games to disappears from GOG. I wonder what games will dissappear from sale when all is said and done. I can't imagine no game end up being removed.

gamefreak1972: I'd love to see something done with BLOOD, and Lemmings. The idea that any of these games might just sit on a shelf somewhere though rather than be used is just..ugh.
avatar
Zeewolf: Lemmings was never an Atari franchise, it was created by DMA Design (aka Rockstar North) and published by Psygnosis (aka Sony Studio Liverpool). So it's in Sony's hands.
..I sit corrected. :)

Well that does sound promising... Star Control 2 was such a good game.

That's very good news. Don't neglect the music. :-)
I think that if any of these games come up as a 75% sale over the next few days, I'll take the hint and get them before it's too late.
Here is some information on the auctions:

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/07/22/more-atari-ip-auction-winners-announced-stardock-plans-star-con/

The RCT IP had a minimum bid of $3.5 million and nobody bought it, so Atari may lower the price and try again.
How much do they want for the BloodNet IP

I can pay a fiver

That seems absurd that Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise has a $3.5 million starting bid but Total Annihilation ($250,000), Master of Orion ($100,000), and Star Control ($100,000) all start out so much less. Those Rollercoaster Tycoon games must be hugely popular sellers or else someone made a typographical error.

How about a Humble Atari Bundle? I'd but that for a dollar!

heck yeah ,i think its best atari lost the ip's they have no idea how each ip could have had top notch games developed for them rather than collect money on sales of older games
