Yeah I've read something about Delgo too. Matrix and Dark City. Bioshock and The City of Lost Children.

The City of Lost Children doesn't have that much in common with Bioshock... the more popular comparison would be System Shock 2. Mind you, I can see your point in some respects (the water aspect, mad science, etc.).
Either way, it is funny how you often get similar things at the same time. Armageddon and Deep Impact would be another.
The second link I posted is amusing more for it's rather stretched comparisons... the legolas one in particular.

I'm kinda on the fence with this movie... sure the effects are going to be great, but I'm not so sure about the plot... Dances with Wolves in SPACE!!!

Yeah I was restricting mostly about movies, visual comparison. I've played SS2 of course, sure there's no denying the roots of Bioshock, it was just mainstreamed.
Really stretchy comparisons. C'mon, D9 already? I haven't watched it yet. And every time an archer with a long hair appears, it is an elf? And amazing that we just got the 2012 film announced by now, talking about armageddon.
They always have some 'inspiration', or do you think that every H. and Bollywood movies have original plots? :)

I agree taczillabr, even the earliest movie "masterpieces" borrowed themes and plots that had already been long established in literature. At this point nothing is really original and the only way that Films are innovative is in the way they present themselves and how they tell "old stories" differently than their predecessors.

There are rumours that it cost upwards of $250 million. One estimate was $500M!
That's a hell of a lot of money to get back, especially when you layer distribution and marketing costs on top of that.
They basically need a batman level of success to make some good money from this.
Still not sure if this is going to be the film that finally gets me to pay extra to watch in 3d... I just don't see anything particularly good about this film.

I might watch it when it gets to network television.

eh.. As soon as I saw the first teaser i didn't expect much more than a wild action flick with colonial marines and blue skinny aliens instead of those beloved black phallic ones :-P
Not every movie is supposed to be a 5-way cluster mindfuck. Take for example the best mindless action movie of the year, Shoot em up!

We'll be getting it here on Jan 1st, 2010. I hope it lives up to my very low expectations :-)

This movie is a waste, and it's this kind of argument from a director that will make CG look even worse to critics. We're not at the point where you can't tell the difference, and that's clear from this trailer. That being one of the main points the film is trying to make, I can't see myself spending money on it.

I enjoyed it, and Clive Owen and Paul Giammati are particularly good.
There are some truly bizarre scenes in it, it turns up the action to 11.

I have no interest. I don't really enjoy CGI-heavy movies...
I find it amusing that all these 80s directors are doing all these heavy CGI movies in the modern era and most of them suck. It's like they care more about showing they can use new tech than they do about making a good movie.

I am skeptical, but critics seem to like it. James Cameron has made some very good movies, so I'll be going to see it this weekend, without any expectations whatsoever.

On the 80s films note, I did hear on the grapevine that Total Recall is being remade... in fact loads of good old films are being remade for no good reason. (also includes Escape from New York, Evil Dead etc.)
