Hi everyone.
I saw that Two Worlds was added to gog.com and I wonder... is this game really that "old"?
In my opinion games should be at least 5 years old or maybe even more like 6-8 years. What do you think, when is a game "old enough" to be part of GOG?

No this thread is not meant to complain about gog.com, it is just a question what you think about the definiton of OLD game ;)

Depends. On the definition of "old".
But why is that so important? Another drm-less game for a few bucks more is always good in my book, regardless if it was originally released 3, 5 or 10 years before.
Its all subjective. For some, 2008 was "ages" ago. For some, Battlecruiser was "awesome".
In either case, with their current business model (DRM free, no client), I'd rather GOG be a little loose with the definition rather than too strict.
Old enough that you can't find it on the average retail store shelves (Gamestop, Best Buy, etc)
I don't include Fry's because sometimes they find a box in the back of some old games and throw them on the shelves to linger for eternity.
All underrated/rejected games go here, along with the old ones. Ever notice that? The critically acclaimed masterpieces that everyones played don't show that often because publishers WANT to keep them on their own store or whatever. For instance, Blake Stone was rejected because DOOM came out a month later. Evil Genius is freakin awesome in every way but not many people played it or heard of it. Two Worlds everyone knew about, because everyone said it was so bad. Which it was in some ways, but really fun at the same time. I could go on for a long time about the games here. You could say we have Fallout and other good old games that have big names, which is true, but majority is of the rejected underrated gems hardly anyone played. Thats why I love this site. Its a gold mine, and the only people that have touched it are the coolest community members ever.
I think we can all agree that GOG now tents to release games that are not generally available as retail anymore. Not wither they are good or old.
Just worth mentioning (even though it was likely mentioned in the other ninety threads about this):
Good is subjective. Psychonauts was actually considered bad by many people, if only because the actual gameplay was rather questionable.
Pretty much everything by Troika is considered bad by anyone who didn't either love Troika or wait for the unofficial patches :p
And so forth.

But... But... But VTMB was awesome! :(
To me, old game is anything past two years old, no longer being mentioned on magazines or websites or getting new content or expansions, except maybe a sequel, which would be a whole new game. Anything you no longer see ad campaigns for, probably moved to the bargain bin, being part of deals and sales or having a permanent price drop qualifies.
I don't think exclusively of "old" as 10 year old, hard to find games with pixelated, blocky or low res graphics, though those qualify too because they usally also fit the above criteria. At some point GOG has to start selling the not-so-old, pretty graphics games or they will soon run out of new titles to offer. It's easier to track down these games rights holders than those of some forgotten classics with expired licenses from companies that went broke and got bought by some other company. I'm pretty sure the uproar would be far greater if GOG stops offering "new" titles twice a week than if some of those titles are somewhat recent.
Hell, sometimes I wish GOG sold new games and this is as close as that wish gets.
old games were good games..two worlds was a good game..so why not to put it here ?
I wish people would stop complaining for GOG releasing not only decades old games. I mean, seriously, if you don't like them, don't buy them.
It seems as soon as the price drops on a game it can be consider either old, or maybe not so good!
About Good "Old" Games, any game released that is HARD to find in retail stores, that should make the list.
Also, games w/ nasty DRM that get a special GOG release w/out DRM - fine by me. Two Worlds is on that list. I'm all about games getting GOG release minus the DRM.
DRM is only needed really for when the game is sold at top dollar prices ($40-60 or more upon release)...
Old for me is something that doesn't have a particular age but a feeling of inferiority to current games either because of features or shifts in technology. Like Fallout has the god awful interface and clunky controls that any new RPG wouldn't even consider putting into their game.
In two years, that game will be old enough for your criteria. But if some people want to buy it now, why wait for two years?
