I am not looking for a freebie or warez copy.

I am asking, is there a way to give someone, properly and legally, five or ten bucks for a pain-free way to install Sid Meier's Civilization II? Maybe as a bonus pack with one of the newer Civ games?

Or am I just going to have to dig out my CD and make the installer behave under Win7x64?

Thanks guys!

(And, of course, GOG, which has Colonization and Alpha Centauri, should TOTALLY get Civ, and Civ II, for us real geezers.)

As far as I know, the earliest civ available on digital distribution is Civ 3.

I would like to get Civ 2 to see what the fuss is about, I starte with 4, but I've played 3 to 5 now. I would like to check the earlier ones as well.
Well, sounds like I'm going digging for my hardcopy.

Luisfius, I have no idea how hard they are to install, or run, on a modern OS - once I find mine, I might - but Civ II, at least, looks to be readily available on disc at places like Amazon, if you want to pick up a copy.

It looks like 2K included hard (?) copies of I & II with the "Civilization Chronicles" edition, so, if they are acknoeldging that they still exist, maybe they will at some point be on Steam (etc) with the rest of them.

Not to sound like That Guy, but this kind of Nope, You Can't Buy It nonsense is EXACTLY why people turn to abandonware sites.

Well, I've only played 1-3, but I only played Civ3 for about a day. Then I went back to Civ2. It is my personal favourite of the series, no doubt (of the ones I've played anyway). It's actually more or less exactly the same game as Civ1, only with better graphics, more wonders and a slightly larger tech tree. And it rocks ;-)
I recommend trying

FreeCiv

it has Civ2 mechanics in options afaik. Better graphics and UI though.

I'll look into FreeCiv.

Thanks!

But mainly, I think I'm going to go looking for my Civ II Gold CD. (DVD?)

Well, it doesn't have the advisors and the wonder movies ... but I agree, for the mechanics it's a good replacement.

Doesn't have palace improvement either. A feature that I actually miss.

Aren't there mods for that? I don't know myself, just asking.

If you find it, you might also take a look at this. I haven't tried it, so I can't vouch for whether or not it works, but a quick google netted me this:
The Idiot's Guide to Playing Civ2 on Windows 7 64bit
Wishbone, thanks!
Call to Power 2 is also remotely similar to Civ 2/3 and available here.
civ 2 was the 1st pc game i bought after moving from the atari falcon. Fantastic game spent many many hours playing.

I have Civ Chronicles
, and it is not "new" installers, it's just a repackage of the originals on newer mediums :P. But it is a bit crippled: "Please note that due to copyright issues, we were unable to include three of the scenarios from the Fantastic Worlds expansion pack. "
Check out Alpha Centauri too, in my oppinion superior to Civilization 2, unless for some reason you can't stand all the futuristicness.
