As our catalog gets bigger and better every week, it’s easy to lose track of some of the awesome games that we have to offer. Of course Fallout, Baldur’s Gate, and some other of our most popular titles will always get a lot of attention, but GOG has many more classics to bring you. To help encourage you to explore the dustier reaches of GOG’s catalog, we’re going to be offering a promo on the first and third Wednesday of every month. Think of it as a curated promo on some of GOG’s favorite titles that you may not have played. Whether we’re encouraging you to explore incredible new worlds or inviting you to see how a titanic series got its start, we think every game we’re going to be offering on our GOG Gem Promos will be an excellent title, and we hope you give them all a try.

With the next GOG.com Gem Promo, we'd like to put a spotlight on one of the best hack-and-slash RPG Sacred Gold. In the game you are given the choice of one of eight character classes including Dark Elf, Gladiator, Vampire Lady among others. Each hero starts from a different location, has its own quests and skills, but they all have a common goal: to save the fantasy world of Ancaria from the evil necromancer Shaddar. The Gold edition includes all improvements added in Sacred Plus and the Sacred Underworld expansion, which added two new characters and new quests that follow the events at the end of the original Sacred. The game sold more than 1.8 million copies worldwide and we believe with the 60% discount it's going to boost this number significantly :)

So don't wait and grab Sacred Gold today for only $3.99! The promo ends tomorrow, May 19 at 5:59 a.m. EDT (9:59 a.m. GMT).

One thing to be aware of this game is that the requirements for the Phat Loot you find is dependent on 3 things:

1. The level of your character
2. The difficulty level
3. The area you are in.

That means, as I have found out to my huge disappointment, that if you rush through a difficulty level and unlock the next one without leveling up enough, you will not be able to use any of the loot you find due to the level requirement.

That's really the only reason I stopped playing the game - rushed to the Platinum level, and would have needed at least 5 hours of straight grinding to be able to use even the most basic magical equipment drops.

ChaunceyK: Y'all simply HAVE to know my question by now...

Can the combat be played in turn-based mode?
No, it's action-based like Diablo, etc. For what it's worth, I found the difficulty scaled just fine. The first few creatures you encounter aren't hard to kill and you will ramp up in power and skills quickly enough. Try it at this price - it's a terrific game! :D

writer2036: Got this game I love it. I also Have Sacred 2 but it just seems not as good as the first one I can't seem to put my finger on it as to why that is.
I totally agree with you. Sacred 2 felt like a very, very different game to me. I own the EU version and expansion for it but just could not finish it. The UI and everything else in the game felt way too convoluted and poorly laid out.

Sacred Gold, however, is a real gem :)

Great deal guys. I've been wanting to get this game for years, and for 10 dollars it was already very tempting, for 4? Well, it looks like I'm going to waste away in Sacred Goldville. Thank you! :-)
Must mull it over...

Although I'm always up for a good Diablo clone...

wow pm'ed you hope im not too late
The constant respawn made getting from place to place achingly time consuming and dull. However, the game is a lot of fun and combat is lots of fun too.

Agreed that Divine Divinity is better, however.

One of the main things leading to a smooth experience in this type of game is how inventory is handled and how that impacts getting from place to place. If you have to constantly travel back to town to sell things kept in a limited (and all too often small) inventory, a game will wear on you no matter how good. If those distances are especially long and if monsters respawn in them so you can't just GO and get back, ugh. Sacred Gold has all that in spades.

But it is still quite fun. It would not take much to make it a game I played forever instead of failed to complete. If you have more tolerance than I do, you may find all Sacred Gold's virtues overpower its few but quite aggravating faults.

svmariscal: How is multiplayer on this one? I'd like to try it coop with the wife.

DrIstvaan: There is a co-op mode in the game, and the multiplayer part itself is quite fun.
Thanks, purchased!
Wonderful! Since I've only recently jumped on the Diablo-clone train (via lots of time spent with Titan Quest), this seemed like a logical purchase to make. Hooray for more hours of hack and slash fun to come!
Darn, I haven't written my review for this yet, waiting to finish my my underleveled Plat run so I can try different specs in Niobium. (Which is on the back burner as I try to finish other stuff to free up disk space for the Witcher, yikes!)

It's a great game though - even grinding can be pretty fun, and each class really has a unique playstyle.

GameRager: When I played a bit of it awhile back I liked the custom starts for each character and all the missions and how each character is treated by the people in the world.......definitely a must buy for all Hack&Slash/RPG fans.

(Also....................bloody spam. I don't like it!)
It's amazing how quickly the mod team nukes spam though. It's already gone, whatever it was. Every time I've commented on spam, it's gone by the time I finish writing my post and add it!
This game is too good to pass up for $4 - no seriously. If you played its sequel, don't be scared. This one was much better fleshed out in many ways and is as close to my heart as the infamous "Diablo" series. I hated 2, but this one was a gem in a sea of 3d fps games that slowly killed the topdown arpg.

Also keep in mind a part of this game was developed by a company prior to Ascaron, which could be why it has higher quality standards than S2 did.
This is the first game I got from GOG, and yet I still have not finished it. Got bored along the way. But I promise to come back and finish it someday...
Have a disc copy of this already but bought another off GOG for the convenience :).Havent tried it on my win 7 64 bit system however. Works ok for those out there using same OS?.
a big thank you to Khalaq for gifting me the game :)
