Some time ago I had the idea of comparing DotEmu, GOG and GamersGate for monthly newly released DRM free (non casual) games. I wanted to combine prices and popularity into a simply score and track the development over time. It did not work out. There is no simple measure of popularity available which is good at the same time.

So I limit myself to publishing titles and prices as a service to people who are buying DRM free extensively. I only check GOG, DotEmu and GamersGate. Well, info about GOG is kind of redundant here. Impulse and Steam may offer similar things but I would not include them since they usually do not deliver a freely usable installable. Someone else can comment on these if necessary. Also, if there are DRM free releases of non-casual games from other sources, please contribute!

Comment: GamersGate and DotEmu show me prices in €. For comparability I converted these prices to $ using the conversion rate from end of month. Since the € is getting stronger lately, buying on GOG becomes even more rewarding for the € states.

It's nice to be able to compare prices/releases, so thanks for this.
Hear, hear! Trilarion, thank you for the effort.

Its nothing big, just a small service I indent to continue, so lazy people don't have to surf on all the sites every week (unless you want exactly that). :)))

Some more comments: GamersGate offers DLCs or Add-Ons with the label DRM free. I do not include them, only new releases of full games

October 2010
.
Its time for an update. Also in October around 20 (non casual) games have been published DRM free on GOG, DotEmu or GamersGate. Here is a list with respective price informations which are really a complex thing... but see below.

GOG

GOG only has $ prices which are constant worldwide. I display € and $ prices at the current conversion rate of 1€=1.4$

Icewind Dale Complete - 7.1€ - 10$
The Temple of Elemental Evil - 4.3€ - 6$
Age of Wonders 2: The Wizard's Throne - 7.1€ - 10$
Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition - 7.1€ - 10$

Additional material (Betrayal in Antara) has been added to Betrayal at Krondor. Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights are definitely bargains!

DotEmu

DotEmu only has € prices, so I assume, they are also worldwide constant. I display again € and $ with the actual conversion rate. Additionally prices in $ on GOG are given, if games are also present on GOG.

Lords of Magic (Special Edition) - 5€ - 7$ (6$ on GOG)
Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich - 5€ - 7$ (6$ on GOG)
Creatures Exodus - 9€ - 12.6$ (10$ on GOG)
Escape from Paradise City - 10€ - 14$
Gang Land - 10€ - 14$
Beyond Atlantis - Atlantis 2 - 10€ - 14$
Loki - 10€ - 14$
Egypt 3 - The Fate of Ramses - 10€ - 14$
Kaan - Barbarian's Blade - 5€ - 7$

There are some new games that are not yet on GOG, probably because they wouldn't fit in the two price points here. So checkout DotEmu if you like Adventures!

GamersGate

Now GamersGate has its own € and $ prices depending on your IP address. I tested with an american and a german IP address. More often than not, the conversion rate is 1:1 with an average conversion rate of 1€=1.15$ or 20% below real value. This makes GamersGate for european users quite expansive lately. Again prices are also displayed for GOG if the game is also available there.

Republic: The Revolution - 10€ - 10$ (10$ on GOG)
Enclave - 8€ - 8$ (6$ on GOG)
Seven Kingdom II - 9€ - 10$ (6$ on GOG)
Reckless Squad (PC, Mac) - 4.5€ - 6$
Dracula Series Episode 2: The Myth of the Vampiire - 7€ - 10$
Dracula Series Episode 3: The Destruction of the Evil - 7€ - 10$
Age of Wonders Trilogy with Soundtrack - 18€ - 20$
Lugaru HD - 9€ - 10$
Lionheart King's Crusade - 40€ - 40$
Arevan: The Bitter Truth - 13.3€ - 13.3$
Age of Wonders - 5€ - 6$ (6$ on GOG)
Age of Wonders II: The Wizard's Throne - 9€ - 10$ (10$ on GOG)
Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic - 9€ - 10$

So the Age of Wonders Trilogy is a defenite bargain, but only for Americans, not for Europeans, who should rather buy them individually at GOG. Also note, that Lionheart is a new full price game which is also DRM free, but happens to have the same price irrespective of currency.

And here is the Update for:

November 2010

Again all three monitored services have published new DRM free releases.

GOG

GOG only has $ prices which are constant worldwide. I display € and $ prices at the current conversion rate of 1€=1.3$

Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic - 7.7€ - 10$
Icewind Dale 2 Complete - 7.7€ - 10$
Space Rangers - 7.7€ - 10$
Baldurs Gate 2 - 7.7€ - 10$
Chaser - 4.6€ - 6$
Moto Racer - 4.6€ - 6$

The great RPG collection has now been completed on GOG. Icewind Dale 2 and Baldurs Gate 2 are great games.

DotEmu

DotEmu only has € prices, so I assume, they are also worldwide constant. I display again € and $ with the actual conversion rate. Additionally prices in $ on GOG or GG are given, if games are also present on GOG.

Iron Storm - 10€ - 13$ (10$ on GOG)
Spellforce Gold - 10€ - 13$ (10$ on GOG)
Gothic 2 - 10€ - 13$ (10$ on GOG)
AquaNox - 5€ - 6.5$ (6$ on GOG)
Chicago 1930 - 10€ - 13$
Aura - Fate of the Ages - 10€ - 13$
Robin Hood - The Legend of Sherwoord - 10€ - 13$
Inquisition - 10€ - 13$ (6€ on GG)
Curse - The Eye of Isis - 10€ - 13$ (10€ on GG)
Painkiller - Black Edition - 7€ - 9.1$ (10$ on GOG)

Normally GOG is cheaper in comparisons, not for Painkiller though. Most other games can be bought for less on GOG or GG.

GamersGate

GamersGate has its own € and $ prices depending on your IP address. I monitored with an american and a german IP address. The average conversion rate for GG for november is 1€=1.1$. This makes GamersGate for european customers quite expensive.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum - 20€ - 24$
Indigo Prophecy - 9€ - 10$
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive - 9€ - 10$
Ground Control 2 Special Edition- 5€ - 6$
Ground Control + Expansion - 6€ - 6$

Desparados was a really good game and if Rollercoaster 3 is like Rollercoaster 1 or 2 its probably a good game too. About the rest, I cannot say.

Please post at least once in this thread after me, so I can continue next month. Thanks!

No.
Great thread, thanks!
I hope we get Robin Hood, Chicago and Desperados soon.

Very good thread, thanks a lot!
Some games still come out DRM free at retail too, you might want to include them. I just recently got Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions and it's DRM free.
Just as an FYI - Ground Control (the first one) was released as a free game a while ago [by the developer/publisher]. DotEmu selling it isn't quite kosher imo.

GOG is selling it too (with an expansion, admittedly):

Now we can add DRM free games for Dezember - a quiet month regarding releases on GOG.

Dezember

GOG

GOG has worldwide only $ prices, conversion according to the actual rate 1€=1.33$.

Alien Shooter + Expansion - 4.5€ - 6$
Dream Pinball 3D - 4.5€ - 6$
Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars Directors Cut - 4.5€ - 6$

Not much happened here.

DotEmu

Dark Fall - The Journal - 5€ - 10$
Europa 1400 - The Guild - 5€ - 5$
Aquanox 2 - Revelation - 5€ - 5$
Chaser - 5€ - 5$
IREM Arcade Hits - 10€ - 15$
Broken Sword Trilogy - 10€ - 10$
Syberia Pack - 15€ - 15$
Atlantis Pack - 20€ - 20$
Pack Cossacks - 10€ - 10$
Pack Cossacks II - 10€ - 10$
Pack American Conquest - 10€ - 10$
All Cossacks and American Conquest Series - 20€ - 20$

Packs, packs, packs ... DotEmu has discovered the marvel of packs. Apart from that either they have mostly 1€=1$ or 1€=2$ for Dark Fall. ($ prices with american IP)

Chaser on DotEmu is cheaper than here for US IP address holders and more expensive than here for european IP address holders... strange.

GamersGate

X: Beyond the Frontier - 4.5€ - 6$
X-Tension - 4.5€ - 6$
Warbirds Dogfights - 20€ - not available with american IP
Fallen Earth Blood Sports - 20€ - not available with american IP
Flyboys Squadron - 10€ - 10$
8th Wonder of the World - 10€ - 10$
Northland - 10€ - 10$
Cultures - 10€ - 10$
A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda - 15€ - 15$
Starpoint Gemini - 30€ - 30$

Many new games, however some only available from european IP address? Conversiont mostly 1€=1$.
The new year started slowly and I was kind of not paying attention, but now we catch up with the last two months.

January + February

GOG

GOG has worldwide only $ prices, conversion according to actual rate 1€=1.4$.

Moto Racer 3 - 7.1€ - 10$
Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded - 4.3€ - 6€
The Zork Anthology - 4.3€ - 6€
Police Quest 1+2+3+4 - 7.1€ - 10$
Dark Reign + Expansion - 7.1€ - 10$
The Last Express - 4.3€ - 6$
Return to Zork - 4.3€ - 6€
Space Rangers 2: Dominators - 7.1€ - 10$
Police Quest: SWAT 1+2 - 7.1€ - 10$
Dark Reign 2 - 4.3€ - 6€
Pinball Gold Pack - 7.1€ - 10$
Zork Nemesis: The Forbidden Lands - 4.3€ - 6€
Shadowgrounds - 7.1€ - 10$

Sometimes even two releases per week. GOG, keep up the publishing speed, even if there was nothing for me this time.

DotEmu

€ prices are with german IP, $ prices with american IP. Average conversion rate 1€:1.3$ but very variable from game to game.

Aura 2 - The Sacred Rings - 10€ - 10$
Dark Fall 2 - Lights out - 5€ - 10$
The Last Express - 4€ - 6$
Postal Pack - 12€ - 15$
Postal Classic and Uncut - 4€ - 5$
Postal 2 - Share the Pain - 8€ - 10$
FlatOut - 4.5€ - 6$
FlatOut 2 - 7.5€ - 7.5$
Ghost Master - 4€ - 5$

Prices of DotEmu which used to be significantly higher than GOG are now getting more an more aligned to GOGs. For some games (Last Express, Ghost Master) the € prices actually undercut GOGs prices. Also, DotEmu offers games that GOG does not offer (above the 10$ price point). DotEmu certainly gains momentum but also might yield to GOGs cheap prices. Maybe GOG wants to revisit its two price points policy.

GamersGate

€ prices are with german IP, $ prices with american IP. Average conversion rate = 1€:1.1$ which is quite unfair for european customers.

SEGA mega drive classics (Streets of Rage, …) - 2.5€ - 3$
Blue Madonna: A Carol Reed Mystery - 10€ - 10$
18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker 2 - 18€ - 20$
TV Manager 2 - 9€ - 10$
TV Manager 2 Premium - 28€ - 30$
Amsterdam Street Racer - 9€ - 10$
Peter Jackson's King Kong: Official Game - 10€ - 10$
Mark Leung: Revenge of the Bitch - 15€ - 15$
Trine - 20€ - 20$
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Extended - 15€ - 15$
The Farm - 8€ - 10$
Emergency 3 - 9€ - 10$
Cities in Motion - 20€ - 20$
20.000 Leagues under the Sea - 13€ - 15$
Creed Arena - 10€ - 10$
Miasma: Citizens of Free Thought - 6€ - 6$
Trapped Dead (German) - 40€ (english version is 20$ !!!)
Animals of the World (Kids) - 5€ - 5$
Chronicles of a Dark Lord: Episode I Tides of Fate - 9€ - 10$

A lot of casual titles too (too many to list here) and nothing really interesting for me, except Miasma, an Incubation like game.
