Well, if your car can shoot, and if you can use first persion view (like you can in most racers), then theoretically, it's a first person shooter. Nothing in the genre name that says you can't be in a car.

Then again, I can't remember any shooting in Carmageddon, apart from that crazy spring thingy powerup.

WBGhiro: , if there's anything the gaming industry taught us it's that whenever you reboot something you have to make an FPS, because everything else would just be too crazy to work.

tejozaszaszas: Actually, there are people who can´t play Crysis at 30 FPS. Posh kids (or adults)...
Well yeah, but that's Crysis for you. Not exactly the most optimised game.

If it was anything but a remake of the xcom franchise it could have been good, the aliens have been replaced by black gloop and now looks like a cross between the thing, heart of darkness and with alan wake thrown in for good measure.

Could be interesting I suppose the trailer if I had never heard of xcom looked promising

Biggest kick in the balls regarding classics of the past is that asian mmo they are doing for dungeon keeper

StarEye: Never tried Clutch, was talking about the new Carmageddon game and the fact that the new Carmageddon game is being developed by Stainless Games. I don't think Clutch was made by Stainless.
I feel like a dumbo now. I got confused with the two somehow or rather lol.

"st June, 2011. Isle of Wight, UK.

The Carmageddon brand has been reacquired by the team that developed the original PC titles Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now. Stainless Games today announced that a new title is in early development, called ‘Carmageddon: Reincarnation’.

"Carmageddon has returned to its Indie developer roots, and the time is right to bring the game to a new audience.” said Patrick Buckland, CEO and Stainless co-founder. “Originally an ambitious title that tested the hardware limits of its day, we’re excited that the game will finally get the showcase it deserves on today’s platforms.”

“Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success.” said Neil Barnden, Executive Director and Stainless co-founder, “All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt.”

“I was in the war!” Patrick added.

Now in the early stages of pre-production development, Carmageddon: Reincarnation is slated for release in 2012. Stainless Games is actively seeking a partner with whom to move the project on to full production.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is being developed for digital download, for which Stainless Games have built an enviable worldwide reputation, with numerous cross-platform releases and multiple No.1 titles on XBLA.

RottenRotz: By the way cant wait for first one to show up here. With Splat Pack expansion, never really played it!

tejozaszaszas: Even if GOG succeed in getting Catrmageddon, they will have problems with the Splat Pack. The original game have many bugs and crashed frecuently, even in Spain was retired from the stores (and I had to buy it from the SCI store). This happened with the original game in my pentium 200 MMX/ Windows 98/ 3dfx computer, but when I actaully tried to run the game on a emulator on a using Dos Box.... Well, I was unable to play it. The first Carmageddon (without expansion pack) run fine on Dos Box though.
C1 + Splat Pack 3DFX versions run perfectly in DosBox up to 1920X1080 with the nGlide wrapper while using the voodoo2 executables with the -vrush option.

It even works quite well through the steam overlay. Here are some screenshots taken through the steam overlay feature.

BTW, anyone interested in a Max Pack release here (C1 + Splat Pack) should head over the carmageddon.com forums and beg.
New Carmageddon page is active almost 2 weeks, and still no new updates.. :(
